AbstractManagement of pulmonary embolism (PE) has become more complex due to the expanded role of catheter-based therapies, surgical thrombectomies, and cardiac assist technologies, such as right ventricular assist devices and extracorporeal support. Due to the heterogeneity of PE, a multidisciplinary team approach is necessary. The manifestation of PE response teams are in response to this complex need and similar to the proliferation of stroke, trauma, and rapid response teams. Intensive care units are an ideal location for formulating a comprehensive treatment plan that necessitates an interaction between multiple specialties.
