AbstractChanges in food consumption and exercise are fueling a worldwide increase in obesity in children and adolescents. As a consequence of this dramatic development an increasing rate of type 2 diabetes can be observed in children and adolescents in many countries. Development of strategies for therapy of type 2 diabetes and implementation of prevention of obesity and type 2 diabetes in this age group should be primary health care goals.
