AbstractGastrointestinal (GI) decontamination is commonly used in the treatment of the poisoned patient. Although the practice is widely accepted, the science behind the recommendations is limited. This article describes commonly used techniques for GI decontamination and critically reviews the studies evaluating these treatments.
