AbstractWe report the case of a 56-year-old male diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia who developed a severe cervical hematoma following an ultrasound-guided right internal jugular vein catheterization. Despite receiving platelet transfusions prior to the procedure, the patient experienced progressive hematoma enlargement, leading to respiratory distress. Further investigations, including carotid Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA), ruled out arterial injury, but thromboelastography revealed severe coagulation dysfunction. The patient subsequently developed cerebral hemorrhage and died despite intensive care interventions.© 2024. The Author(s).
