    AbstractThe aim of this study was to analyse the contribution of "La España Médica " (1856-1866) to the introduction of anesthesiology in Spain. Thirty-seven articles on anesthesiology were published, with 19 articles (51.35%) being originals from spanish authors and 18 (48.64%) from abroad. By means of this medical newspaper from Madrid, Spanish physicians received information concerning the latest changes in anesthesiology with special emphasis on the introduction of amylene.
