AbstractViolence and assault in the emergency department (ED) are recognized as significant occupational hazards for nursing professionals. Learning what assault means to emergency nurses is a critical step in planning long-term solutions to workplace violence. It is vital that nurses take a realistic account of all the risks of assault and build a comprehensive and supportive approach to the problem so as to ensure the safety of EDs.
