It was brought to the attention of the Editor-in-Chief that large sections of the abstract, methods and results and discussion of the paper are identical to a paper published in The National Medical Journal of India, Volume 14, Issue 6, November/December 2001, Pages 335-339. http://archive.nmji.in/archives/Volume-14/issue-6/original-articles-2.pdf We apologise to the readers of the journal that this plagiarism was not detected during the submission process. To verify originality, all articles submitted to the Journal of Infection are now checked by the originality detection service CrossCheck.
