Case Reports[Caecal diverticulitis in a young woman with suspected acute appendicitis].
Colonic diverticular disease is common amongst the western population in the left hemicolon while right-sided involvement is rare. This case concerns a 20-year-old female, who was hospitalized with suspected acute appendicitis. ⋯ Histopathological examinations revealed a single inflamed diverticulum of the caecum. The case illustrates the pre- and perioperatively differential diagnostic problems of caecal diverticulitis, which can lead to more radical surgery than needed.
