Review[Clonidine can reduce opioid medication during post-operative pain].
Post-operative pain management can be a challenge, and one of the first choices seems to be opioids. However, opioids have undesirable side effects, and attention may lead to a multimodal analgesia. The use of clonidine is a part of this strategy. ⋯ Overall, there is a good effect of post-operative pain management. Side effects as hypotension and sedation are mentioned but not as a limitation. Many anaesthesiologists do already use clonidine in the management of post-operative pain, but more research about intravenous administration of clonidine is needed.

Case Reports[Post-partum posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome].
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a complex clinical condition with vasogenic subcortical oedema caused by hypertension. Oedema is often seen on magnetic resonance imaging. ⋯ In this case report we emphasize the importance of blood pressure control in a post-partum woman, who had a rather complicated pregnancy. The symptoms of PRES were not recognized immediately because of failure to use and acknowledge a blood pressure test.

Review[When muscle relaxants have unexpected prolonged duration during anaesthesia].
Muscle relaxation facilitates tracheal intubation and improves surgical conditions during anaesthesia. However, unexpected prolonged muscle relaxation may occur. ⋯ Drug interactions, incomplete reversal, co-morbidity, inaccurate neuromuscular monitoring and critical illness may prolong the effect of muscle relaxants. The anaesthetist must titrate the muscle relaxants using objective neuromuscular monitoring and proper reversal of the blockade when needed.

Case Reports[Thromboelastography-guided transfusion in a patient with amniotic fluid embolism and massive coagulopathic bleeding].
Amniotic fluid embolism is a serious and devastating complication in obstetrics. Despite a low incidence of 1-6:100.000, it remains one of the leading causes of maternal death in developed countries. ⋯ Despite early and aggressive treatment, mortality and risk of neurological impairment remain high. We present a classic case of amniotic fluid embolism during labour and briefly discuss the current recommendations for treatment.
