Case Reports[Fatal intracerebral haemorrhage possibly caused by interaction between paracetamol and warfarin].
This is a case report of an 83-year-old man in warfarin treatment with stable international normalised ratio (INR) after aortic valve replacement and atrial fibrillation. Due to back pain he took paracetamol (acetaminophen) 4 g/day, morphine 30 mg/day and diclofenac as rescue medication for two weeks. ⋯ The patient died eight days after admission. Mechanisms of the possible interaction between paracetamol and warfarin are discussed.

Case Reports[Fatal reaction to wasp sting in a patient allergic to wasp venom].
A 68-year-old man suffered from anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest following wasp sting. He was resuscitated and taken to hospital where he later died from anoxic brain injury. ⋯ Patients with anaphylaxis due to insect venom must be referred to allergological investigations. Furthermore, they should be educated in recognition and handling of anaphylaxis and they should be provided with a management plan and an auto-adrenaline-injector along with a thorough instruction on the appropriate use.

Review[Inhibition of the protein PCSK9 is a promising target in the prevention of cardiovascular disease].
Recent research in genetics has revealed that PCSK9 - which codes for proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) - plays a major role in cholesterol regulatory pathways. Normal genetic variations in PCSK9 have a great impact on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and hence the risk of cardio-vascular disease. This has led to huge efforts in inhibiting PCSK9. Recent clinical phase II trials with monoclonal antibodies against PCSK9 have shown great results for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels making the inhibition of PCSK9 a promising target in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Review[Analgesic management of acute pain in patients receiving methadone or buprenorphine].
In Denmark, approximately 7,600 patients receive maintenance therapy with methadone or buprenorphine because of opioid addiction. These patients have an increased risk of inadequate pain treatment during hospitalization, among others because of tolerance to opioids and poor communication with the staff. The present article describes four common misconceptions among health-care providers that underlie inadequate pain treatment and provides practical recommendations for the analgesic management of acute pain in patients receiving methadone or buprenorphine.

Review[Fibrin adhesives and cyanoacrylates in surgical specialties].
Fibrin adhesives and cyanoacrylates are used in surgical specialties due to their ability of fixating tissue. The fibrin-based adhesives mimic the blood's own coagulation cascade, while the cyanoacrylate-based products function like commercially available superglue. The use of adhesives varies from skin lacerations to highly complicated surgical procedures, and adhesives provide an alternative or combined method of fixation to traditional fixation as suture. We present results from various clinical studies to investigate the use of fibrin-based and cyanoacrylate adhesives.
