Lack of association between the -2549 insertion/deletion variant of vascular endothelial growth factor and coronary artery disease in the Turkish population.
Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Vascular endothelial growth factor is known to induce endothelial cell migration and proliferation, increase vascular permeability, and modulate thrombogenicity. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the VEGF insertion/deletion (I/D) variant (rs35569394) and coronary artery disease susceptibility in the Turkish population. ⋯ This study suggests that the VEGF I/D variant is not a predisposing factor to coronary artery disease disease in a Turkish sample.

The role of the Chitinase 3-Like 1 (CHI3L1) genes in the preeclampsia pathophysiology.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Chitinase 3-Like 1 gene polymorphisms and the occurrence of preeclampsia in a selected cohort of pregnant women. ⋯ The study suggests that the rs880633 polymorphism may serve a protective role against the development of preeclampsia, whereas the rs7515776 polymorphism may be associated with an elevated risk. Further research is warranted to elucidate the clinical implications of these findings.

Can serum M30 levels be utilized as an activation marker in patients with ulcerative colitis?
Ascertainment of disease activation is an important component of therapeutic decisions in ulcerative colitis patients and may present certain clinical challenges. The objective of this study was to determine serum levels of the M30 fragment of cytokeratin 18 and its utility as an activation marker in patients with ulcerative colitis, who are known to have increased apoptosis. ⋯ Our results suggest that, in contrast to C-reactive protein and mean platelet volume, M30 levels do not have a significant role as an activation marker in ulcerative colitis patients. Thus, we believe that M30 may not represent an appropriate marker to be used for this purpose.

A study on obese patients' participation in cancer screening programs: an example from Turkey.
Obesity is associated with many types of cancers. Despite this, the participation of obese individuals in cancer screenings is limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cancer screening-related attitudes of obese patients. ⋯ Monitoring obese patients in target-oriented facilities such as an OC increases the chance of success in the fight against obesity and related health problems.

Long-term oxygen therapy to reduce length of hospital stay in COVID-19.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of long-term oxygen therapy as a strategy to reduce hospitalization time in patients affected by COVID-19. ⋯ Long-term oxygen therapy is an effective strategy for reducing hospitalization time in COVID-19 patients, regardless of gravity. Additionally, more obese patients with persistence of respiratory symptoms, faster disease evolution, and more days of invasive mechanical ventilation needed to maintain the long-term oxygen therapy longer.
