Minimally invasive surgery has become a worldwide trend to reduce the wound and mitigate pain. However, the role of robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) has not been well established in the era of minimally invasive surgery. It would be nearly impossible to apply minimally invasive surgery in the tedious and complicated Whipple operation without an experienced and dedicated pancreas team. ⋯ More than 99% of the patients undergoing minimally invasive RPD are satisfied with the surgical outcomes and would like to recommend RPD to those with periampullary lesions. RPD could be recommended not only to surgeons but also to patients in terms of surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction. Moreover, our study showed a survival benefit for pancreatic head adenocarcinoma in RPD group, with 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year survival of 82.9%, 45.3%, and 26.8%, respectively, as compared with 63.8%, 26.2%, and 17.4% in OPD.

A novel infectious disease, coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), spread globally since December 2019. Without effective treatment and vaccination, the strategies to restrain this disease are only keeping social distance, maintaining personal hygiene, quarantine, and isolation. ⋯ To avoid COVID-19 transmission among patients on dialysis, the major societies of nephrology around the world have provided their guidelines for screening, dialysis facilities adjustment, and health education, respectively. In this review, we summarized the main contents and differences of these guidelines and addressed the prompt management for patients with ESRD to reduce the risk of infection during COVID-19 pandemic.

Dialysis patients are more vulnerable and susceptible to the severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection due to multiple comorbidities. Since Taiwan has the highest incidence and prevalence of treated end-stage kidney disease worldwide, it is crucial to act in advance to prevent a potential disaster. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we implement proactive infection control measures to prevent it from spreading without sacrificing the dialysis care quality. ⋯ Specifically, in our facility, the working and office areas of the HD units are separated to reduce cross-infection. All elective procedures for HVA are postponed, and operating rooms equipped with a negative-pressure anteroom are used for the suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients. Herein, we share how we modified our HVA care policy not only to prevent our patients from COVID-19 infection but also to maintain the quality of HVA care.

This meta-analysis of randomized control trials (RCTs) aimed to evaluate the effects of isoflavones supplementation combined with exercise training on bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. ⋯ The present meta-analysis reveals that isoflavone supplements combined with exercise training do not significantly increase BMD in postmenopausal women. In addition, combined intervention does not provide additive effects on BMD improvements compared with exercise or isoflavone supplementation alone.

Although current studies suggested that conjunctivitis is not a common presentation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), several studies have reported the presence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) in ocular secretions. Coronavirus had not yet been successfully cultured from tears or conjunctival swabs in humans, neither SARS-CoV-2 nor SARS-CoV. ⋯ Reports of ophthalmologists and otolaryngologists died of COVID-19 also raised concern on ocular transmission. As a result, we strongly suggest that personal protective equipment (PPE) should cover the mouth, nose, and eyes of ophthalmologists, especially when conjunctivitis caused by SARS-CoV-2 is clinically indistinguishable from other viral follicular conjunctivitis.
