To date, few reports have investigated the genetic alterations and clinicopathological features among gastric cancer (GC) patients with no tumor recurrence, early recurrence, and late recurrence following curative surgery. ⋯ PIK3CA amplifications were more common in diffuse-type GC with early recurrence, whereas ARID1A mutations were more common in patients with single-site recurrence. Targeted therapy and immunotherapy might be helpful for these patients.

Sentinel lymph node (SLN) status is the predominant prognostic factor in patients diagnosed with clinically localized melanoma. The significance of completion lymph node dissection in patients with SLN metastasis is debatable. Not many studies have been conducted on acrallentiginous melanoma (ALM). This study aimed to characterize the prognostic factors of nodal positive ALM and confirm whether ALM patients can undergo the same treatment strategy as non-ALM patients in the Asian population. ⋯ Patients in the CM or ALM subgroups with metastatic SLNs or lymph nodes exhibited significantly poorer overall survival. Advanced Breslow thickness and lymphovascular invasion were independent predictive factors for CM and ALM patients with positive lymph node status. There was no significant difference in survival between CM and ALM patients following SLNB, regardless of CLND being performed.

Expanded HTT alleles with 40 or more CAG repeats were recently found to be a rare cause of frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) spectrum diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of HTT repeat expansions in a Taiwanese cohort with ALS. ⋯ The HTT allele with 39 CAG repeats could be a genetic factor linked to ALS susceptibility.

To examine the feasibility of using pulsatility index-adjusted (PI) flow equations to accurately characterize blood volume flow changes using Doppler technique in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) before and after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). ⋯ No conclusions can be drawn from the comparison of actual measured volume flow between before and after PTA. However, using the MVF/PIVF relative percentage allows for a more objective framework upon which to base clinical observations and provides clarity in situations where direct measurement provides a counter-intuitive or contradictory picture.

Patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) have heterogeneous outcomes. As risk stratification mostly focuses on left-side myocardial function, we sought to investigate the prognostic value of right ventricular (RV) function in patients with HCM. ⋯ RV function assessed by TAPSE or RV free wall strain is predictive of subsequent cardiac events, suggesting that a comprehensive evaluation of RV function is useful for risk stratification in patients with HCM.
