Current evidence of volume changes in hippocampal subdivisions in schizophrenia remains inconsistent, and few studies have investigated the relationship between regional hippocampal volumes and symptom remission. ⋯ Our results indicated that the pathophysiology and symptomatic remission of schizophrenia are related to changes in the volumes of hippocampal subdivisions. These volume changes might be clinically relevant as biomarkers for schizophrenia identification and treatment.

Vascular access dysfunction is a great burden for hemodialysis patients. Early intervention of a dysfunctional arteriovenous shunt is associated with higher technical success and may improve midterm patency. This trial aimed to estimate the feasibility of a new system, the "rapid intervention team" (RIT) strategy. ⋯ The implementation of the RIT strategy improves the quantity and quality of percutaneous transluminal intervention for arteriovenous shunt dysfunction or failure in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Iodine nutrition is critical for fetal neurodevelopment in the first trimester of pregnancy, a period associated with dramatic changes in thyroid function. The aim of this study was to evaluate iodine nutritional status and thyroid function reference ranges in the first trimester in Taiwan. ⋯ The iodine nutritional status in the first trimester is adequate in Taiwan; however, certain subgroups such as nulliparous and multivitamin nonusers are still at risk for iodine deficiency. Gestational thyroid function reference ranges are needed for correct diagnosis of thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy.

Metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 ( MALAT1 ) plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of diabetes-related complications. However, whether macrophage-derived MALAT1 affects autophagic activity under hyperglycemic conditions is unclear. Therefore, we investigated the molecular regulatory mechanisms of macrophage-derived MALAT1 and autophagy under hyperglycemic conditions. ⋯ This study demonstrated that hyperglycemia upregulates MALAT1 . MALAT1 suppresses miR-204-5p expression and counteracts the inhibitory effect of miR-204-5p on LC3B expression in macrophages to promote vascular disease.

Mori Radicis Cortex (MRC) is the root bark of the mulberry family as Morus alba L. In Korea, it is known as "Sangbaegpi". Although MRC has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, its specific mechanisms of action and impact on osteoporosis remain poorly understood. ⋯ Based on micro-CT, serum and histological analysis, MRC effectively inhibited bone loss in an OVX-induced rat model. In addition, MRC treatment suppressed the expression of osteoclast differentiation, fusion, and bone resorption markers through inhibition of NFATc1/c-Fos expression in RANKL-induced RAW 264.7 cells, ultimately resulting in a decrease in osteoclast activity. These results demonstrate that MRC is effective in preventing bone loss through inhibiting osteoclast differentiation and activity.
