In liver cirrhosis, chronic inflammation is associated with an increase in oxidative stress, and subsequently an increase in the concentration of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL). Ezetimibe is a lipid-lowering agent with anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress activities. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ezetimibe treatment on ox-LDL in cirrhotic rats. ⋯ Ezetimibe reduced plasma and intrahepatic ox-LDL levels in the cirrhotic rats. Furthermore, it ameliorated intrahepatic fat accumulation and oxidative stress. However, ezetimibe did not alleviate hepatic fibrosis or inflammation in the biliary cirrhotic rats.

Lymphedema impairs patients' function and quality of life. Currently, supermicrosurgical lymphovenous anastomosis (LVA) is regarded as a significant and effective treatment for lymphedema. This article aims to review recent literature on this procedure, serving as a reference for future research and surgical advancements. ⋯ Recent literature discusses clinical imaging, surgical techniques, postoperative care, and efficacy. Combining advanced tools, precise imaging, and surgical skills, LVA provides a safer and more effective treatment option for lymphedema patients, significantly enhancing their quality of life. This procedure also presents new challenges and opportunities in the realm of microsurgery.

Comparison of the mesodermal differentiation potential between embryonic stem cells and scalable induced pluripotent stem cells.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have promising potential in clinical application, whereas their limited amount and sources hinder their bioavailability. Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have become prominent options in regenerative medicine as both possess the ability to differentiate into MSCs. ⋯ Our research revealed that these iPSCs with high immune compatibility exhibit the same differentiation potential as ESCs, enhancing the future applicability of highly immune-compatible iPSCs.

Hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection is highly prevalent in Mongolia. We aimed to identify the risk factors associated with HDV infection, propose preventive strategies, and evaluate the outcomes of a 3-year collaborative project between Taiwan and Mongolia. ⋯ Dental treatment and injections were associated with a higher risk of acute HDV infections in Mongolia. Through collaborative efforts, the incidence rate of HDV infection has declined in recent years.

Preoperative estimation of the volume of the left atrium (LA) and epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) on computed tomography (CT) images is associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence. We aimed to design a deep learning-based workflow to provide reliable automatic segmentation of the atria, pericardium, and EAT for future applications in the management of AF. ⋯ Our proposed workflow for automatic LA, RA, and EAT segmentation using 3D U-Nets on CT images is reliable in patients with AF.
