Comparative StudyComparison of indocyanine green fluorescent angiography to digital subtraction angiography in brain arteriovenous malformation surgery.
The potential utility of intraoperative microscope-integrated indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence angiography in the surgery of brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and evaluation of the completeness of resection is debatable. Postoperative catheter angiography is considered the gold standard. We evaluated the value of ICG and intraoperative catheter angiography in this setting. ⋯ Although ICG angiography is a helpful adjunct in the surgery of some brain AVMs, it's yield in detecting residual AVM nidus or shunt is low, especially for deep-seated lesions and higher grade AVMs. ICG angiography should not be used as a sole and/or reliable technique. High-resolution postoperative angiography must be performed in brain AVM surgery and remains the best test to confidently confirm complete AVM resection.

Impact of intraventricular hemorrhage measured by Graeb and LeRoux score on case fatality risk and chronic hydrocephalus in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Reliable prognostic tools to estimate the case fatality rate (CFR) and the development of chronic hydrocephalus (CHC) in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are not well defined. This study aims to investigate the practicability and reliability of Fisher, Graeb, and LeRoux scores for SAH patient prognosis. ⋯ Graeb or LeRoux scores improve the prediction of shunt dependency and in parts of CFR in aneurysmal SAH patients therefore confirming the relevance of the extent and distribution of intraventricular blood for the clinical course in SAH.

Effectiveness of selective peripheral denervation in combination with pallidal deep brain stimulation for the treatment of cervical dystonia.
Selective peripheral denervation (SPD) and deep brain stimulation of the globus pallidus (GPi-DBS) are available surgical options for patients with medically refractory cervical dystonia (CD). There are few data available concerning whether patients who have unsatisfactory treatment effects after primary surgery benefit from a different type of subsequent surgery. The aim of this study was to assess whether combining these surgical procedures (SPD plus GPi-DBS) was effective in patients with unsatisfactory treatment effects after their initial surgery. ⋯ Patients with unsatisfactory treatment effects after an SPD or GPi-DBS experienced improvement from subsequently undergoing other types of surgery. Therefore, combined surgical procedures are additional surgical options with good outcomes in the treatment of patients with residual symptoms after their initial surgery.

Complications of cranioplasty using a bone flap sterilised by autoclaving following decompressive craniectomy.
Increasing use of decompressive craniectomies has led to a corresponding number of cranioplasties performed to replace the subsequent bone defect created. We aimed to evaluate the morbidity associated with cranioplasty using an autologous bone flap sterilised in an autoclave. ⋯ Reimplantation of the autoclaved autologous bone flap following decompressive craniectomy is a simple and cheep alternative to other techniques and is available to any institution that provides autoclaving sterilisation services. This method is associated with a low rate of surgical site infection, but with a significant rate of the bone flap resorption.

Observational StudyEndovascular management of adjacent tandem intracranial aneurysms: utilization of stent-assisted coiling and flow diversion.
Tandem intracranial aneurysms are aneurysms located along a single intracranial vessel. Adjacent tandem aneurysms arise within the same vascular segment and their presence often suggests diffuse parent vessel anomaly. Endovascular management of these rare lesions has not been well studied. In this retrospective observational study, we describe our experience treating adjacent tandem intracranial aneurysms with endovascular embolization. ⋯ Adjacent tandem intracranial aneurysms can be safely and effectively treated by either stent-assisted coiling or flow diversion. We prefer PED flow diversion due to better parent vessel reconstruction and lower recanalization risk.
