In the present work we use text mining as a treatment tool for a large scientific database, with the aim of obtaining new information about all the publications signed by Argentine authors and indexed until 2019, in the area of life sciences. More than 75 000 articles were analysed, published in around 5000 media, signed by about 186 000 authors with a workplace in Argentina or in collaborations with Argentine laboratories. ⋯ Results are also presented regarding the number of publications per year, the journals that have published them, and their authors and collaborations. These results, together with the predictions that were obtained, could become a useful tool to optimize the management of resources dedicated to basic and clinical research.

The atypical clinical features in multiple sclerosis (MS) have been rarely reported and suggest the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. The aim was to describe the clinical and demographic characteristics of MS patients who debuted with atypical symptoms and to estimate the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value (PPV) for MS diagnosis. A retrospective analysis of clinical records was performed. ⋯ Sensitivity and specificity of these symptoms to MS diagnosis were 3.65% and 19%, respectively. In our research, the presence of atypical symptoms at the onset of MS was very low. Other diseases must be excluded, taking into account their low sensitivity, specificity and PPV.

Degenerative spinal disease is the leading cause of low back pain and sciatica in the general population. It is an important cause of absenteeism and increased expenses. Its incidence increases in people subjected to tasks that overload the spine, such as construction workers. ⋯ Mean age 42 years, degenerative spinal disease of the lumbosacral segment, 66.9% of the sample without postoperative complications resumed the same pre-surgical activity. Post-surgical IDO and VAS scores were worse in patients discharged, retired, and/or requalified. Patients under 42 years of age, without postoperative complications who improved more than 1 Oswestry category, returned to their usual tasks with satisfactory results in the medium and long term.

Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease associated with poor results regarding long term survival. Surgical treatment along with new oncologic treatments have improved the survival of these patients in international experience reports. The aim of this study was to describe overall survival and disease-free survival after pancreatectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. ⋯ Median overall survival was 22.8 months (95% CI: 19.5-29) and survival at 1, 3 and 5 years were 72%, 32.5% and 20.8% respectively. The median disease-free survival was 13.8 months (95% CI: 12-17.6) and 1, 3- and 5-years disease-free survival were 56.1%, 21.8% and 19.4% respectively. The groups of patients that completed adjuvant treatment showed a better overall survival (p < 0.0001).

Cardiogenic shock (CS) has a high mortality rate and often requires advanced therapies such as mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and heart transplantation (HT). Those patients who presented an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with CS and required support through MCS as bridge to HT were retrospectively analyzed in a single Center. Between January 1997 and June 2020, 524 patients received HT, 203 for ischemic-cardiomyopathy, 103 were in emergency waiting list. ⋯ None died in hospitalization or during the first year after transplantation. Survival at 5 and 10 years was 73% and 55%. Emergency HT may be the best option for selected patients with acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock refractory to conventional therapy.
