The discovery of the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 receptor and carrier protein in the testicles, along with the mandatory preventive social isolation during 2020 and subsequent immunization, prompted us to evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on seminal variables in males seeking consultation at the laboratory. ⋯ The study revealed reversible changes in testicular function reflected by a decrease in sperm count in the total ejaculate of patients who had experienced COVID-19. These changes appear to be related to fever and inflammation rather than the virus infection itself.

Streptococcus suis (S. suis) is a globally prevalent swine pathogen, capable of generating infections in humans who were in contact with the animal or its raw meat. Clinical manifestations range from asymptomatic cases to systemic involvement, with low mortality, but with the possibility of leaving definitive sequelae such as ataxia and hearing loss. There are few case reports, due to lack of knowledge of the disease and its atypical presentation. The objective of this article is to report the case of a man with an occupational history of contact with pigs, who was admitted for meningitis and in whom the isolation of S. suis was obtained in cerebrospinal fluid and paired blood cultures; He completed antibiotic treatment adjusted to bacterial sensitivity, and was left with mild hearing loss as a consequence.

Brain abscess is a focal suppurative process produced in most cases by bacterial agents. Aggregatibacter aphrophilus is a gram-negative bacteria belonging to the HACEK group, which causes infective endocarditis, liver abscesses, among others. Brain abscesses secondary to this germ are rare and, in most cases, it is associated with contact with pets, poor dental hygiene or dental procedures. ⋯ The case of a 64-year-old male patient with no relevant history is here presented. He was admitted to the emergency service due to headache, hemianopsia of a week's duration and later tonic-clonic seizures, in whom imaging studies and culture of a brain lesion subsequently revealed a brain abscess due to A. aphrophilus. This case aims to illustrate about the rarity of this infection, because A. aphrophilus is a normal part of the oropharyngeal flora and respiratory tract, in which it rarely causes invasive bacteremia.

Although extensive research exists on the morbidity and mortality associated with tracheostomy in pediatrics, scarse work has been done to analyze the outcomes after hospital discharge of tracheostomized children. In our country there are no publications referring to the follow-up of this population. The general objective of this study was to describe and analyze the situation of tracheostomized children living at home in Argentina. ⋯ Our research, the first of its kind, provides a crucial epidemiologic analysis of the situation of tracheostomized children living at home in Argentina. These findings are significant as they shed light on a previously unexplored area, emphasizing the need for further studies to confirm and expand these data.

Currently the patient is defined as an older adult (OA) when the age is at least 60 years. Given the long life expectancy, it is interesting to evaluate whether all OAs with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are equal. The objectives were to know the prevalence of OA in AMI and within them, that of those ≥75 years of age and to analyze characteristics, reperfusion treatments and in-hospital mortality according to whether they are < or ≥ 75 years of age. ⋯ one in four patients with AMI is over 75 years old; they receive less reperfusion, have more heart failure, bleeding and twice the mortality rate than patients between 60 and 74 years.
