Predictive model for atrial fibrillation in hypertensive diabetic patients.
Several scores to identify patients at high risk of suffering atrial fibrillation have been developed. Their applicability in hypertensive diabetic patients, however, remains uncertain. Our aim is to develop and validate a diagnostic predictive model to calculate the risk of developing atrial fibrillation at five years in a hypertensive diabetic population. ⋯ The model accurately predicts future atrial fibrillation in a population with both diabetes and hypertension. Early detection allows the prevention of possible complications arising from this disease.

Gut Microbiota Profiles and the Role of Anti-CdtB and Anti-vinculin Antibodies in Patients with FGID.
Distinct faecal microbiota profiles are reported to be associated with various subtypes of IBS. Circulating antibodies to cytolethal distending toxin B (CdtB) and vinculin are proposed as biomarkers to identify post-infectious IBS. The aim of our study was to analyse serum levels of anti-CdtB and anti-vinculin antibodies in patients with different functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) and their correlation with the composition of faecal microbiome. ⋯ Neither anti-CdtB/anti-vinculin antibodies nor faecal microbial profiles allowed to discriminate between specific FGID subgroups. Dysbiosis was more frequent in patients presenting with anti-CdtB antibodies and in IBS-C patients.

Protective effect of SARS-CoV-2 preventive measures against ESKAPE and Escherichia coli infections.
We investigated whether behavioral precautions adopted during Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic also influenced the spreading and multidrug resistance (MDR) of ESKAPEEc (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii [AB], Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp and Escherichia Coli, [EC]) among Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients. ⋯ These findings suggest that a robust adherence to hygiene measures together with human contact restrictions in a COVID-19 free ICU might also restrain the transmission of ESKAPEEc pathogens.
