Is bioabsorbable screw an alternative choice for displaced medial epicondylar fractures in adolescents: A comparative study of metallic cannulated lag screw versus bioabsorbable screw.
In adolescent patients, cannulated lag screw (CLS) is a widely accepted choice for fixation of the medial epicondylar fracture of the humerus (MEFH). Absorbable implants, including rod, screw, and mini-plate, have been reported in children. However, to the best of our understanding, this study is the first head-to-head comparative study of CLS versus bioabsorbable screw (BS) in the treatment of MEFH. ⋯ Both CLS and BS are safe and effective choices for displaced MEFH in adolescents. The BS can produce a satisfactory clinical outcome and is comparable to the CLS. Besides, the BS has the advantage of not needing second surgery for implant removal.

The anesthetic management of patients with severe pulmonary hypertension is different from that of normal, healthy patients, and regional nerve blocks are commonly used for them. Due to the individual variability of the course, distribution, and branching of the nerves below the inguinal ligament, the supra-inguinal fascia iliaca (SIFI) block has a wider and more stable blocking area. In combination with the sacral plexus block, they can satisfy the needs of surgical anesthesia below the hip. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided suprainguinal fascia iliaca block combined with a sacral plexus block can be suitable for anesthesia for patients with severe circulatory compromise.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, and is a major cause of disability and chronic pain in adults. However, there is very limited evidence in the scientific literature to support the effectiveness of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) in human knee osteoarthritis. This retrospective study aimed to compare the efficacy of ESWT treatment with sham-ESWT on pain, walking speed, physical function, and adverse effects in knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ The hypothesis was that ESWT would be an effective treatment for improving pain and physical function in knee osteoarthritis to control symptoms.

Clinical relevance of multi-drug resistance gene C3435T polymorphism in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in Xinjiang.
To explore the relationship between C3435T polymorphism of multi-drug resistance gene (MDR1) gene and susceptibility, clinicopathological characteristics, curative effect and hematological toxicity of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in XinJiang. The peripheral venous blood samples of 54 patients with DLBCL and 60 healthy controls were collected. The alleles and genotypes of MDR1 gene C3435T were detected by DNA direct extraction with PCR technique, and the frequency of C3435T allele and genotypes were detected by the chi-square test. ⋯ There was no significant difference in myelosuppression (P > 0.05). The homozygous mutation genotype of CC is the risk genotype of DLBCL. The alleles and genotypes are not associated with the clinicopathological characteristics, efficacy and myelosuppression toxicity of DLBCL.

Perioperative patient blood management during parallel transverse uterine incision cesarean section in patient with pernicious placenta previa: A retrospective cohort analysis.
Pernicious placenta previa (PPP) is the main cause of severe obstetric postpartum hemorrhage and hysterectomy and often requires donor blood transfusion. Prophylactic internal iliac artery (IIA) balloon occlusion (BO) combined with cell salvage is increasingly being deployed in parallel transverse uterine incision (PTUI) cesarean section (CS). The aim of this study was to explore the differences in blood management in PTUI CS with or without prophylactic IIA BO and to evaluate the safety and efficacy of cell salvage to reduce the need for donor blood transfusion during PTUI CS. ⋯ No cases of amniotic fluid embolism were observed with leukocyte depletion filters. Prophylactic IIA BO during PTUI CS in women with PPP and PA does not lead to a statistically significant reduction in EBL. Cell salvage was associated with a reduction in the rate of donor blood transfusion during PTUI CS.
