Case Reports
Pediatric blunt abdominal trauma with horizontal duodenal injury in school baseball: A case report.
Pediatric sports injuries, including those from baseball, most often are musculoskeletal injuries and rarely include blunt abdominal injuries. Duodenal injury is rare and often associated with other organ injuries. Because it has a relatively high mortality, early recognition and timely treatment are needed. Here, we report a case of successful treatment of a pediatric patient with duodenal injury incurred in the context of school baseball. ⋯ Regardless of the type of injury, we must assess the life-threatening conditions that can be expected based on the mechanism of the injury. In duodenal injuries, it is critical to perform surgical procedures and post-operative management based on the assumption of injuries to other organs.

Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a rare and highly aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis. SDC demonstrates a potential for invasive growth with early regional and distant metastasis to organs, such as bone, lung, liver, and brain. Because, adrenal gland metastasis from SDC is rare, its treatment options are not well established. Herein, we report a case of SDC metastasis from the parotid gland to the adrenal gland, which was successfully treated by surgery. ⋯ Surgical resection of solitary metastatic lesion may show a survival benefit with metastatic SDC.

Analysis of antibiotic sensitivity and resistance genes of Bordetella pertussis in Chinese children.
To understood the pathogen detection status and clinical characteristics of suspected pertussis in children and to observe the drug sensitivity and drug resistance genes of Bordetella pertussis (B. pertussis). ⋯ The diagnosis of pertussis by a fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction method is more sensitive than that of bacterial culture. The resistance of B. pertussis to erythromycin was prominent. All of the strains of B. pertussis resistant to erythromycin in our center had the A2047G mutation of the 23S rRNA gene.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) has a relatively low incidence, whereas the incidence of herb-induced liver injury (HILI) is still under investigation. As a special type of DILI, the diagnosis of drug-induced autoimmune-like hepatitis presents a persistent challenge, because this condition has partial characteristics of both DILI and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), such as a certain history of medication use and histology that similar is to AIH. Thus, the differential diagnosis between DILI and AIH can be confusing. ⋯ We must to be vigilant about the safety of xiang-tian-guo as a herbal medicine. When faced with the difficulty of distinguishing between AIH and DILI, long-term follow-up observations for recurrence can aid clinicians in making a judgment.

Observational Study
Clinical effectiveness of liraglutide on weight loss in South Koreans: First real-world retrospective data on Saxenda in Asia.
Among Asian countries, South Korea was the first to approve liraglutide as a treatment for obesity. Thus, the clinical effectiveness of liraglutide has not been studied in Asian populations. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed obese patients [body mass index (BMI) >27 kg/m2] who were treated with liraglutide between March 2018 and March 2019 in a single clinic. ⋯ Weight loss was not significantly related to age, sex, baseline BMI, baseline HbA1c, smoking status, alcohol consumption, coffee intake. In conclusion, Liraglutide treatment led to meaningful weight loss in South Korean patients, and fat mass reduction was prominent during treatment. Furthermore, liraglutide showed greater clinical effectiveness with longer treatment time.
