Among the main types of neoplasms in the female population, breast and cervical cancers are the most important due to their high morbidity and mortality rates. The mortality has been proportionally higher in developing countries. Analysis of the trend of cancer mortality in Brazil revealed a considerable difference in the pattern of deaths between the regions. ⋯ Breast cancer mortality rate varied from 3.81 to 11.47 per 100,000 women from 1981 to 2014, indicating a growing trend. There is a significant increase in the mortality rate for breast cancer and stability of cervical cancers in the State of Acre from 1980 to 2014, evidencing a concern in their care and monitoring. Above all, guaranteed access, especially to the population of women at social risk, and the search for effective screening should be emphasized in the formation of the care line and the Health Care Network in the State of Acre.

To identify prognostic tumor-infiltrating immune cells of endometrial adenocarcinoma. The gene expression profiles of endometrial adenocarcinoma were downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). The abundance of tumor-infiltrating immune cells in endometrial adenocarcinoma samples was calculated by CIBERSORT algorithm. ⋯ The abundance of macrophages M0 (P = .038) was significantly correlated with better prognosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma. In contrast, the abundance of CD8 T cells (P = .049) was associated with poor prognosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma. Tumor-infiltrati macrophages M0 and CD8 T cells were prognostic factors of endometrial adenocarcinoma.

Evaluation of serum insulin-like growth factor 1 and its significance in thyroid cancer: An observational study.
Serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is elevated in different cancers. However, relationships between serum IGF-1 and thyroid cancer (TC) are scarce. The present study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of serum IGF-1 in TC. ⋯ The serum IGF-1 cutoff value for a TC diagnosis was 216 ng/mL with a sensitivity of 53.2%, a specificity of 74.0%, a positive predictive value (PPV) of 83.5%, and an area under the curve was of 0.71. Serum IGF-1 was significantly correlated with tumor stage, size, and lymph node metastasis. Serum IGF-1 shows great potential as a laboratory marker for TC.

Thalassemia is an inherited disease associated with thromboembolic events (TEE) and cerebral artery disease. Here, we report a patient with beta-thalassemia presenting with intracerebral hemorrhage due to cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), and intracranial aneurysms were found after examination. We believe that it is very rare for this patient to have two kinds of cerebrovascular diseases. ⋯ CVST and intracranial aneurysms are associated with the pathological mechanism of thalassemia, and patients with beta-thalassemia should be monitored and educated for long-term prevention, especially those with risk factors.

Some patients with advanced colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) are not sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and as such, immunotherapy has become the most popular option for these patients. However, different patients respond differently to immunotherapy. Tumor mutational burden (TMB) has been used as a predictor of the response of advanced COAD patients to immunotherapy. ⋯ The results of functional enrichment analysis indicated that these 32 miRNAs were involved in many immune-related biological processes and tumor-related pathways. Therefore, this study demonstrated that differentially expressed miRNAs can be used to predict the TMB level, which can help identify advanced COAD patients who will respond well to immunotherapy. The miRNA-based model may be used as a tool to predict the TMB level in patients with advanced COAD.
