Occupational stress among Nigerian construction trade artisans in the building construction sector: An intervention study.
Construction work can negatively affect artisans' mental health in the form of stress. This research investigated the effect of cognitive behavioral intervention on occupational stress among Nigerian construction trade artisans in the building construction sector. ⋯ Cognitive behavioral intervention effectively reduced occupational stress symptoms and dysfunctional thoughts at work among Nigerian construction trade artisans compared with a waitlist control condition.

Can bipolar transurethral enucleation of the prostate be a better alternative to the bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate?: A prospective comparative study.
To analyze the efficacy and safety between bipolar transurethral enucleation of the prostate (BipoLEP) and bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (B-TURP). One hundred twenty eight patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were recruited and divided into group 1 (BipoLEP group, n = 72) and group 2 (B-TURP group, n = 56). The study period was from October 2016 to February 2019. ⋯ However, there were no significant differences of preoperative and 3-month postoperative parameters, including: post void residual urine, maximum flow rate, International Prostatic Symptoms Scale, and quality of life between these 2 groups (P > .05). BipoLEP can produce a more radical prostatic resection with better safety profile and faster postoperative recovery. It may become a more favorable surgical alternative to the B-TURP, especially for the prostate larger than 80 g.

Effects of smoking on delayed neuropsychiatric sequelae in acute carbon monoxide poisoning: A prospective observational study.
Smoking is a well-known risk factor for cardio-cerebrovascular disease. However, several studies have reported the "smoker's paradox" whereby smokers have a better prognosis for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. Similar to cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, hypoxia is one of the major mechanisms of injury in carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. ⋯ And the incidence rate of DNS was lower in smokers than non-smokers (15, 12% vs 20, 23.8%, P = .040). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that CO exposure time (odds ratio [OR] 1.003; confidence interval [CI] 1.001-1.005; P = .003), the Glasgow coma scale (GCS) (OR 0.862; CI 0.778-0.956; P = .005), and pack-years (OR 0.947; CI 0.903-0.993; P = .023) were statistically significant for DNS development. These results indicate that more pack-years smoked were associated with reduced risk of the development of DNS in acute CO poisoning, and that CO exposure time and GCS is a predictive factor for DNS occurrence.

Nerve injury especially inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) is the one of the complications that occur when the mandibular third molar (M3) is extracted and in case of high risk patients, coronectomy might be an alternative to tooth extraction. The purpose of this retrospective study was to analyze root migration and its influencing factors at 6 months after coronectomy in both 2- and 3-dimensions using periapical view and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). We analyzed 33 cases of root remnant after coronectomy and measured the amount of migration in CBCT. ⋯ The factors affecting migration were the root morphology, complete removal of the coronal portion, impaction depth, and MD angulation in the 2D analysis, and MD and BL angulation in the 3D analysis. Ensuring sufficient space for root migration especially considering angulation, depth and complete removal of the coronal portion might be important factors after coronectomy of the M3. Root remnant after coronectomy of M3 may migrate in young patients who has sufficient empty coronal space and this may reduce the nerve damage by the separation of IAN and M3.

Relationship between peripheral neuropathy and cognitive performance in the elderly population.
There are only a few studies that have shown an association of peripheral neuropathy with cognitive impairment in elderly individuals. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between cognitive performance and peripheral neuropathy. From the database of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 1999-2002), each participant completed a household interview, physical performance test, questionnaire regarding personal health, and Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST) to evaluate cognitive performance. ⋯ After adjustment for pertinent variables, the correlations remained significantly negative (all P for trend <.001). In addition, subgroup analysis showed no gender differences in the negative association, but this association was not significant in obese participants (P > .05). Our study provides evidence that the severity of peripheral neuropathy is significantly negatively correlated with cognitive performance.
