COVID19 infection in a patient with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria: A case report.
Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired, life-threatening hemopoietic stem cell disorder characterized by the triad of hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and impaired bone marrow function. Evidence suggests that severe outcomes in COVID19 infection are attributed to the excessive activation of the complement cascade leading to acute lung injury and associated is with an increased prothrombotic state. ⋯ The complement system activation is a critical component in the sequalae of COVID19 infection. Evidence suggests that severe outcomes in COVID19 infection are attributed to the excessive activation of the complement cascade leading to acute lung injury and associated is with an increased prothrombotic state. Notably, C5a concentration was noted to be higher in patients with COVID19 infection. The use of complement inhibitors to attenuate immune mediated damage in COVID19 nevertheless represents a very interesting theoretical approach. However, careful consideration as to which patients may benefit will be required and the outcome of clinical trials needed.

Vertebral fracture during one repetition maximum testing in a breast cancer survivor: A case report.
One repetition maximum (1-RM) testing is a standard strength assessment procedure in clinical exercise intervention trials. Because no adverse events (AEs) are published, expert panels usually consider it safe for patient populations. However, we here report a vertebral fracture during 1-RM testing. ⋯ Pre-exercise osteoporosis risk assessment might help reducing fracture risk. However, changing the standard procedure from 1-RM to multiple repetition maximum (x-RM) testing in studies with elderly or clinical populations would be the safest solution.

Is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus a common pathogen in ventilation-associated pneumonia?: The experience of a tertiary teaching hospital in Jordan.
Ventilator-associated pneumonia is a life threatening device related infection in intensive care units. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is considered a common contagious pathogen causing pneumonia and sepsis. To assess the prevalence of S aureus in comparison to other pathogens, and their antibacterial sensitivity profile in ventilator-associated pneumonia. ⋯ Gram-negative isolates were present in 507 (92.6%) isolates, of which 82% were multidrug resistant, and 1% were Candida species. Gram-negative bacterial infections were significantly associated with ventilation usage. S aureus was not the predominant pathogen.

The value of anti-rods and rings antibodies in patients with nonhepatitis virus infection: A single-center retrospective study from Southwest China.
The aim of this study was to retrospectively investigate the clinical significance of anti-rods and rings (anti-RR) antibodies in nonhepatitis virus infection patients from Southwest China. Anti-RR antibodies were determined by indirect immunofluorescence assay in a group of 19,935 individuals with antinuclear antibodies test from January 2017 to December 2019. The laboratory and clinical data were collected. ⋯ During the follow-up period of 37 patients with anti-RR antibodies for 1 to 60 months, the titers of anti-RR were significantly increased in the metabolic disease group (Z = -2.346, P = .019). In binary logistic regression analysis, triglycerides (odds ratio 3.679, 95% confidence interval 1.467-24.779, P = .048) was associated with elevated titers of anti-RR antibodies. In summary, anti-RR in non-hepatitis patients may be a manifestation of metabolic disorders, and has a certain correlation with routine laboratory indicators, which is worthy of the attention from clinicians.

Osteosarcoma represents the most common malignant bone tumor with high metastatic potential and inferior prognosis. RNA methylation (N6-methyladenosine [m6A]) is a prevalent RNA modification that epigenetically influences numerous biological processes including tumorigenesis. This study aims to determine that m6A regulators are significant biomarkers for osteosarcoma, and establish a prognostic model to predict the survival of patients. ⋯ In conclusion, this study first revealed potential roles of m6A regulators in osteosarcoma metastasis and prognosis, which should be helpful for its clinical decision-making.
