Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a type of arrhythmia that represents a severe health hazard. The current therapies for AF have achieved success in some conditions. However, because the mechanisms underlying the occurrence and development of this disease remain unclear, the current treatment for AF often does not achieve the desired outcomes. ⋯ However, for patients suffering from hypertension and myocardial infarction, ACEIs/ARBs were not the right choices for preventing AF. Conclusions: We suggest that physicians select ACEIs/ARBs as an anti-AF therapy for patients with heart failure due to their additional benefits. Moreover, for patients who have suffered AF, ACEIs/ARBs may be a routine drug for secondary prevention.

Hospital overcrowding has led to a practice known as bedspacing (in which admitted patients are placed on a different specialty's inpatient ward), yet little is known about the impact of this practice on healthcare quality. We investigated whether hospital outcome measures differ between bedspaced general internal medicine (GIM) patients vs nonbedspaced patients. Our retrospective study included patients admitted to GIM wards at 2 academic hospitals (2012-2014), comparing bedspaced to nonbedspaced patients, and identifying adverse events from the hospital's Electronic Patient Record. ⋯ Bedspacing of patients is common. Patients who are bedspaced to off-service wards have better outcomes. This may relate to preferential allocation practices.

Comparison of efficacy and safety of complementary and alternative therapies for scapulohumeral periarthritis: A protocol for Bayesian network meta-analysis.
Scapulohumeral periarthritis is a disease with high incidence and great pain. The current western treatments with many side effects, poor efficacy cannot fundamentally solve the problem. Complementary and alternative therapies have played an excellent role in the treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis. However, it is not clear which complementary and alternative therapy is more effective. Therefore, we propose a protocol to compare the efficacy and safety of various complementary and alternative therapies through network meta-analysis (NMA) to provide choice guidance for the therapy. ⋯ Complementary and alternative therapies of scapulohumeral periarthritis plays a positive role in improving the symptoms of scapulohumeral periarthritis. Post-stroke spasticity (PSS) is a major worldwide health problem, and timely and effective rehabilitation is associated with the risk of diabetes development; there are a variety of non-pharmacological interventions applied to the rehabilitation of PSS in these treatments; however, the relative efficacy and safety of different therapies remain uncertain, and we will conduct a systematic review and network meta-analysis to evaluate different non-pharmacological interventions. The relative efficacy and safety of intervention in PSS rehabilitation, thus providing evidence to support the optimization of the PSS rehabilitation program. ⋯ INPLASY202140059.

Prior reports have suggested that the red blood cell distribution width (RDW) parameter could be measured as a prognostic indicator in pulmonary embolism (PE) patients, thereby helping to guide their care. However, no systematic analyses on this topic have been completed to date, and the exact relationship between RDW and PE remains to be fully clarified. We will therefore conduct a systematic literature review with the goal of defining the correlation between RDW and mortality in acute PE cases. ⋯ As this is a protocol for a systematic review of previously published data, no ethical approval is required. Electronic dissemination of study results will be done through a peer-review publication or represented at a related conference.
