Review Case Reports
MORC2 gene de novo mutation leads to Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2Z: A pediatric case report and literature review.
Mutations of the MORC2 gene have most commonly been associated with autosomal-dominant Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2Z (CMT 2Z), while the impact of MORC2 mutations in CMT 2Z on neuronal biology and their phenotypic consequences in patients remain to be clarified. ⋯ The clinical manifestations of the disease were similar to those of Leigh syndrome, and they were not significantly improved by cocktail therapy. This site has not been reported in the literature domestically or abroad, and the pathogenesis of CMT 2Z caused by this site mutation is indeed not related to mitochondrial dysfunction. Our study is helpful for clinicians with regard to the differential diagnosis of Leigh syndrome and CMT 2Z and improvement of clinicians' understanding of CMT 2Z disease.

More than 80% of patients who visited Emergency Department (ED) was not urgent in Taiwan in 2019. It causes insufficient medical services and a latent fiscal threat to the Nation Health Insurance (NHI). This study adopted simulation-based educating modules to explore the effect in teaching competence among primary and middle school teachers for efficient AEDRU (adequate emergency department resource usage) education in the future. ⋯ The simulation-based workshop is effective and it should be spread out. When students know how to use ED medical resources properly, they could affect their families. It can help the ED service to be used properly and benefits the finance of the NHI. The health care cost will be managed while also improving health.

Neurogenic bladder (NB), a refractory disease, is characterized by voiding dysfunction of bladder and/or urethra, and spinal cord injury (SCI) is a common cause. Chinese medicine therapies have been applied extensively in the treatment of NB, especially in China, and the results are promising but varying. Thus, the aim of this work is to assess the efficacy and safety of various Chinese medicine therapies for NB after SCI. ⋯ This work will furnish evidence-based recommendations to figure out the optimal Chinese medicine therapy or their combinations for NB induced by SCI, and in turn contribute to further research and public health.

This study aims to analyze and evaluate the difference in efficacy between left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) and oral anticoagulants (OA) in preventing stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) through the method of meta-analysis. The purpose is to provide for the prevention of stroke in patients with NVAF valuable treatment guidance. ⋯ This study will give the best treatment strategy to prevent stroke in patients with NVAF, and provide some reference for clinical medical staff.OSF registration number: DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/2UXPA (https://osf.io/2uxpa).

Randomized Controlled Trial
Gastric emptying of preoperative carbohydrate in elderly assessed using gastric ultrasonography: A randomized controlled study.
Preoperative carbohydrate loading enhances postoperative recovery and reduces patient discomfort. However, gastric emptying of liquids can be delayed in elderly populations. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the gastric emptying of 400 mL of a carbohydrate drink ingested 2 hours before surgery in elderly patients. ⋯ The incidence of grade 2 stomach was not different between NPO group and carbohydrate group in elderly patients.
