In this study, we investigated the correlation between airway assessment tests, anthropometric measurements, and the Modified Cormack- Lehane Classification (MCLC) assessed by videolaryngoscopy in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. This study included 121 morbidly obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The body mass index, Modified Mallampati Score (MMS), thyromental distance, sternomental distance, interincisor distance, and neck, waist, and chest circumferences were recorded. ⋯ As the MMS increased, the risk of a difficult EI increased (P < .001). The cutoff values of neck, waist, and chest circumference for the risk of a difficult EI were 41.5, 153.5, and 147.5 cm, respectively (P < .05). This study indicates that the high MMS, as well as increased neck, waist, and chest circumference, should be considered EI difficulty in obese patients, even if a videolaryngoscopy is used.

Patients with endometrial cancer (EC) who develop bone metastasis (BM) always imply a poorer prognosis. However, reliable predictive models associated with BM from EC are currently limited. We retrospectively analyzed data on 54,077 patients diagnosed with primary EC in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. ⋯ Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis indicated the good performance of both diagnostic and prognostic nomograms. Two clinical prediction model was constructed and validated to predict individual risk and overall survival for EC with BM, respectively. Diagnostic nomogram and prognostic nomogram are complementary, improving the clinician's ability to assess the patient's prognosis and enhancing prognosis-based decision making.

Long-term effects of endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation in patients with challenging bile duct calculi: A retrospective observational study.
Endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation (EPLBD) can be used to treat challenging common bile duct stones. No previous studies have reported intractable cases treated either by EPLBD or mechanical lithotripter use. We aimed to evaluate and compare the long-term effects of EPLBD with mechanical lithotripter use. ⋯ No serious adverse events were observed. Additionally, EPLBD appears to reduce the risk of long-term recurrence. Future studies are needed to evaluate long-term outcomes in younger patients.

We aimed to prospectively identify the risk factors of sarcopenia in patients with cirrhosis. Patients (n = 193) included in a discovery cohort (January 2011 and December 2014) were categorized into alcoholic (A1; n = 55) and non-alcoholic cirrhosis (NA; n = 138) groups, and those (n = 235) in a validation cohort (January 2015 to December 2019) were categorized into alcoholic (n = 92), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis-related (n = 27), and hepatitis C virus-related cirrhosis groups (n = 116). Skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) was determined using computed tomography (SMI-CT) and bioelectrical impedance analysis (SMI-BIA). ⋯ Moreover, SMI-CT correlated with nutritional factors, including cholinesterase (R = 0.50, P = .005), zinc (R = 0.45, P = .01), branched amino acid-to-tyrosine ratio (R = 0.39, P = .02), and triglyceride (R = 0.33, P = .03) in group N. Sarcopenia risk factors differ among cirrhosis etiologies. Alcohol-induced, intestine-mediated peripheral endotoxemia could participate in sarcopenia development in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis.

To investigate the correlation between preoperative inflammatory markers, Ki-67 expression and the pathological grade of glioma, and to provide a reference for clinical prediction of glioma prognosis. A total of 45 glioma patients who underwent surgery with complete clinical and pathological data were in our hospital from January 2012 to December 2018 were enrolled. Glioma was divided into WHO grade I to IV. ⋯ Finally, NLR and PLR were related to Ki-67 expression in glioma patients (P = .002, .022), while dNLR and RDW were not related to Ki-67 expression. Preoperative inflammatory markers NLR, PLR, PNI, and postoperative Ki-67 expression are associated with pathological grade of glioma. Detection of these markers may aid in better prediction of glioma prognosis.
