This is a retrospective study. The aim of this study was to determine the indicators of neurological outcome after surgery in patients with intramedullary spinal ependymomas by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A total of 106 consecutive patients (mean age: 42.4 ± 1.3 years; 52.8% male) diagnosed with intramedullary spinal ependymomas were retrospectively recruited. ⋯ Patients with poor neurological outcomes had larger longitudinal length (4.7 ± 0.5 vs 3.3 ± 0.2, P = .004) and higher enhancement signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) (102.4 ± 12.3 vs 72.8 ± 4.6, P = .022) than those with good neurological outcomes. After adjusting for confounding factors, longitudinal length (OR, 0.768; 95% CI, 0.604-0.976; P = .031) and enhancement SNR (OR, 0.988; 95% CI, 0.978-0.999; P = .026) of spinal ependymomas were significantly associated with poor neurological prognosis. The longitudinal length of tumor and enhancement SNR on T1-weighted images are independently associated with neurological outcome after surgery.

Associations between red cell distribution width and outcomes of adults with in-hospital cardiac arrest: A retrospective study.
Previous studies found that high red cell distribution width (RDW) value is associated with poor outcomes among out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors. The aim of this study was to investigate whether post-ROSC RDW value was associated with survival and neurological outcomes of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) patients achieving return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) but remaining critically ill. This retrospective single-center observational study included IHCA adults with sustained ROSC between January 1, 2017 and January 1, 2021 at an academic medical center in China. ⋯ Other independent factors including younger age, initial shockable rhythm, shorter total cardiopulmonary resuscitation duration and post-ROSC percutaneous coronary intervention were also associated with survival to hospital discharge. Regarding favorable neurological outcome at hospital discharge, significant variables other than the aforementioned factors included postROSC targeted temperature management and absence of pre-existing neurological insufficiency. Low postROSC RDW value was associated with survival to hospital discharge and favorable neurological outcome at hospital discharge.

Enhanced recovery after surgery suggests the use of multimodal analgesia to optimize the perioperative pain management scheme. At present, studies have shown that the application of acupuncture combined anesthesia in thoracoscopy has achieved good curative effect. However, there is no relevant systematic evaluation. Our study is the first meta-analysis of the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture combined anesthesia in pain management after thoracoscopy, in order to provide strong evidence for clinical support. ⋯ The research has been registered and approved on the INPLASY website. Acupuncture plus massage for cervicogenic headache: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.
Cervicogenic headache (CGH), one of the most common headaches. It is characterized by pain starting from the neck and gradually involving the eyes, frontal and temporal regions.
