We aimed to quantitatively analyze the corneal endothelial cell damage by measuring the area stained with trypan blue dye, and to confirm the degree of corneal endothelial cell damage resulting from enucleation, corneal buttoning, and storage in donor corneas intended for use in human corneal transplantation. This study was a retrospective analysis of medical records and videos recorded during keratoplasty. Twenty-one corneal buttons of 21 donors that underwent endothelial cell staining using trypan blue for the donor preparation during DALK or DMEK were included in the study. ⋯ The amount of corneal endothelial cell damage in the central 8-mm circle was mostly acceptable, but some cases showed significantly severe endothelial cell damage. The corneal thickness and endothelial cell density did not differ between 10 eyes in the group with the percentage of the stained area in a circle with a diameter of 8 mm <5% and 5 eyes in the group with the percentage more than 5% damage. Therefore, pachymetry and specular microscopy are not sufficient for evaluating donor corneas before keratoplasty.

Ultrasonographic misdiagnosis of multicystic mesothelioma of the omentum: A case report.
Multicystic Mesothelioma (MM) is very rare and preoperative diagnosis is difficult. ⋯ Improved ultrasound diagnosis of MM is useful for clinical decision-making.

Stroke patients undergo extensive changes in muscle mass which lead to stroke-related sarcopenia. Stroke-related sarcopenia has a significant impact on the functional outcome of stroke survivors. So, it is important to measure muscle mass in stroke patients. ⋯ The QMT measurements of ultrasound show a great relationship with DXA scan findings. Ultrasound better reflects the change of muscle mass between paretic and non-paretic legs than DXA scan at an acute phase of stroke. Ultrasound could be a useful tool to evaluate stroke-related sarcopenia.

Total pancreatectomy (TP) is performed for diseases of the entire pancreas. However, reluctance remains regarding TP because of the fear of high morbidity and mortality. Our retrospective study aimed to evaluate the postoperative outcomes of TP performed at a high-volume single center and to identify the risk factors associated with major morbidities and mortality after TP. ⋯ The independent risk factors for poor overall survival were R1 resection, adenocarcinoma, and high estimated blood loss (EBL). TP is a safe and feasible procedure with satisfactory postoperative outcomes when performed at a high-volume center. More research and efforts are needed to significantly improve overall survival rate in the future.

To assess the early predictive value of maternal parameters for early-onset sepsis (EOS) in preterm infants, especially including the maternal neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and mean platelet volume (MPV). The retrospective cohort study examined a total of 231 preterm infants (69 with EOS) from May 2017 to October 2021 of the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, randomly divided (7:3) into the training set group (n = 162) and validation set group (n = 69). Thirteen clinical variables (including MPV, NLR, and PLR) were included as the research objects. ⋯ The C-index for the training set and validation set groups were 0.872 and 0.889, respectively. The maternal NLR, PLR, and MPV levels had good predictive value for EOS in premature infants. The nomogram in our study could help clinicians predict the occurrence of EOS.
