Meta Analysis
A meta-analysis of wenxin granule and metoprolol for the treatment of coronary heart disease and arrhythmia.
This meta-analysis aimed to systematically and comprehensively assess the effectiveness and safety of wenxin granule (WXG) and metoprolol in the treatment of elderly patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and arrhythmia. ⋯ Compared to metoprolol alone, WXG and metoprolol can more effectively manage patients with CHD and arrhythmia. However, additional large-scale, multicenter, rigorous, and high-quality randomized controlled trials are warranted to verify the present findings.

Pendred syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by sensorineural hearing loss, inner ear malformations, goiter, and abnormal organification of iodide. It is caused by mutations in SLC26A4 gene, which encodes pendrin (a transporter of chloride, bicarbonate, and iodide). Pendred syndrome is a common cause of syndromic deafness, but the metabolic abnormalities it causes are often overlooked. Here, we report the case of a patient diagnosed with Pendred syndrome with hypokalemia. ⋯ Patients with Pendred syndrome may also have certain metabolic abnormalities; thus, more attention should be paid to them during clinical diagnosis.

This systematic review (SR) of SRs aims aimed to evaluate the current evidence of rehabilitation interventions in stroke patients after acupuncture treatment. ⋯ This review summarizes the available evidence and underpins findings of the acupuncture exhibited the therapeutic role in eliminating metabolic risk factors for stroke, including systolic blood pressure, weight loss, glycemic index and cholesterol. Acupuncture could have positive effects on a specific symptom, and the effects depend not only on intervention type but also on how and when the intervention is provided. And more prioritizing high-quality research in this field in the future is conducive to guiding clinical practice.
