Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most malignant tumors with the highest incidence and mortality in the world, causing a serious burden on society. Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is one of the principal metabolic enzymes involved in glycolysis. Studies have shown that PKM2 is highly expressed in HCC and can be translocated to the nucleus, where it interacts with various transcription factors and proteins such as hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1a, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, nuclear factor erythroid 2-like 2 and histone H3, exerting non-metabolic enzyme functions to regulate the cell cycle, proliferation, apoptosis, immune escape, migration, and invasion, as well as HCC angiogenesis and tumor microenvironment. This review is focused on the recent progress of PKM2 interacting with various transcription factors and proteins affecting the onset and development of HCC, as well as natural drugs and noncoding RNA impacting diverse biological functions of liver cancer cells by regulating PKM2 non-metabolic enzyme functions, thereby providing valuable directions for the prognosis improvement and molecular targeted therapy of HCC in the future.

Renal fibrosis is a common pathological manifestation in various chronic kidney diseases. Inflammation plays a central role in renal fibrosis development. Owing to their significant participation in inflammation and autoimmunity, chemokines have always been the hot spot and focus of scientific research and clinical intervention. ⋯ Activation of MCP-1/CCR2 axis can induce chemotaxis and activation of inflammatory cells, and initiate a series of signaling cascades in renal fibrosis. It mediates and promotes renal fibrosis by recruiting monocyte, promoting the activation and transdifferentiation of macrophages. This review summarizes the complex physical processes of MCP-1/CCR2 axis in renal fibrosis and addresses its general mechanism in renal fibrosis by using specific examples, together with the progress of targeting MCP-1/CCR2 in renal fibrosis with a view to providing a new direction for renal fibrosis treatment.

General anesthesia versus combined interscalene nerve/superficial cervical plexus block in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: A randomized prospective control trial.
In this study, interscalene brachial plexus block (ISB) with superficial cervical plexus block added and general anesthesia (GA) application were evaluated in terms of intraoperative hemodynamics, operative time and postoperative analgesia need in patients who underwent rotator cuff tear repair. ⋯ In rotator cuff tear repair anesthesia, ISB with superficial cervical plexus block provides adequate intraoperative anesthesia, low postoperative VAS level, reduced and deferred consumption of opioids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, higher patient and surgeon satisfaction and early discharge.

Spinal epidural capillary hemangioma is a very rare variety of tumors, usually with a predilection for the thoracic spine. ⋯ We report an extremely rare case of spinal epidural capillary hemangioma, where acute spontaneous hemorrhage in the lesion resulted in the hyperacute neurologic deficit within an hour. Since these are benign lesions, the immediate surgical intervention results in a very favorable prognosis and is considered the treatment of choice. Also, this case highlighted and rose the question of a better neurologic improvement in younger age patients with spinal cord injury.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is a common autoimmune disease. However, its presentation and management in the context of COVID-19 are unclear, and COVID-19-triggered HT, along with myopathy and persistent creatine kinase (CK) levels, have not been previously reported. Moreover, no literature review is currently available on HT in the context of COVID-19. This study is a case report and systematic review of the literature. ⋯ This case report highlights the potential link between COVID-19 and autoimmune thyroid diseases. In particular, this study underscores the significance of recognizing new-onset autoimmune thyroid disease in COVID-19-positive patients with elevated CK levels that cannot be attributed to other factors. This systematic review offers additional perspectives for diagnosing and managing HT in COVID-19 settings. Overall, the findings of this study could have important clinical implications for the care of COVID-19 patients, as early identification and treatment of autoimmune thyroid disease could help prevent long-term complications. Additional research is essential to elucidate the fundamental correlations between COVID-19 and HT and assess the effectiveness of therapeutic approaches for autoimmune thyroid conditions related to COVID-19.
