Ingestion of a row of artificial dentures in an adult: A case report and review of the literature.
Foreign body (FB) ingestion is a common clinical emergency, although in most cases, the FB can pass safely through the entire gastrointestinal tract without causing any damage. However, ingestion of large dentures is very rare and alarming, as it can threaten the intestinal mucosa and cause perforation of the gastrointestinal tract, among other complications. ⋯ Our case showed that endoscopy was effective for the retrieval of an esophageal FB. For sharp FBs, the use of a net and rubber jacket is a good choice. However, we advocate for appropriate surgery in patients in whom endoscopy is not possible after an accurate diagnosis or those with severe complications.

Although bronchodilators and glucocorticoids can reduce the symptoms of cough and asthma to a certain extent, the adverse drug reactions and recurrence after recovery still trouble clinicians. Acupoint catgut embedding is effective in preventing and treating acute recurrence and deterioration of COPD, but its clinical efficacy remains controversial. Therefore, this study evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of acupoint catgut embedding combined with conventional Western medicine for COPD through meta-analysis. ⋯ The clinical efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding combined with conventional western medicine for stable COPD is better than that of conventional western medicine, and the safety may be equivalent to that of conventional western medicine, which has the value of further research exploration.

The coronavirus disease 2019 infection has significantly impacted the world and placed a heavy strain on the medical system and the public, especially those with cardiovascular diseases. Hoverer, the differences in door-to-balloon time and outcomes in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection are not known too much. ⋯ SARS-CoV-2 positivity is significantly associated with longer door-to-balloon time and higher in-hospital mortality in STEMI patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of several chronic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and periodontitis (PD). RA patients with periodontitis (RA-PD) are associated with elevated inflammatory burden due to increased production of proinflammatory cytokines. Controlling upregulated MMPs activity in these patients may have potential therapeutic effects. Therefore, aim of this study is to address the focused question: "Do RA subjects with concurrent PD have different levels of MMPs in comparison to RA alone, PD alone and HC subjects?" ⋯ RA-PD group showed significantly higher MMP levels in their serum and GCF compared with HC, RA, and PD alone individuals. MMP-8 may serve as a reliable biomarker in the diagnosis and management of RA-PD subjects.

To systematically evaluate the correlation between serum osteocalcin levels and cognitive function status in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) patients. ⋯ Based on a meta-analysis of included studies, we concluded that there is a moderately strong positive correlation between serum osteocalcin levels and patients' cognitive function in T2D. An intervention to increase serum osteocalcin levels can contribute to delaying and improving cognitive decline in patients with T2D.
