Oxidative stress, a condition characterized by an imbalance between reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and the body's ability to detoxify them, has emerged as a pivotal factor in the pathophysiology of various diseases. Red blood cells (RBCs), essential components of the circulatory system, are particularly susceptible to oxidative damage due to their high oxygen-carrying capacity and the abundance of vulnerable biomolecules. This review comprehensively explores the intricate mechanisms underlying oxidative stress-induced damage to red blood cells and the subsequent implications for overall health and disease. ⋯ Consequently, understanding the implications of oxidative stress on RBCs provides valuable insights into the broader landscape of health and disease. In conclusion, this review underscores the critical role of oxidative stress in influencing red blood cell physiology and its far-reaching implications for human health. Elucidating the molecular intricacies of this relationship not only enhances our understanding of fundamental biological processes but also paves the way for the development of targeted therapeutic interventions to mitigate the adverse effects of oxidative stress on red blood cells and, by extension, on overall health.

Ketamine is the only intravenous narcotic that has sedative, analgesic, and anesthetic effects. However, the role of Flt3l and ribosomal protein S15 (Rps15) in ketamine anesthesia remains unclear. GSE26364 and GSE93041 were downloaded from gene expression omnibus. ⋯ The protein-protein interaction network showed 10 core genes (Rpl7, Rpl18, Rps15, Rpl7l1, Flt3l, Rps16, Eprs, Rps19, Rps28, Rplp2). Gene expression heatmap showed that core genes (Rplp2, Flt3l, Rps15) were highly expressed in samples treated with ketamine anesthesia. Flt3l and Rps15 are highly expressed during ketamine anesthesia, and may be molecular targets.

To compare changes in the spherical component, regular astigmatism, and irregular astigmatism of the anterior surface of the cornea after small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (TransPRK). Fifty-six patients underwent SMILE in 56 eyes, and 68 patients underwet TransPRK in 68 eyes. The right eye was chosen to enter the group. ⋯ TransPRK caused greater changes in SphEcc, MaxDec, and Irr on the anterior corneal surface than SMILE (P < .05). The amount of MaxDec-induced changes in SMILE and TransPRK was significantly correlated with the amount of higher-order aberrations and spherical aberration changes (P < .05). SMILE and TransPRK increase overall irregular astigmatism on the anterior surface of the cornea, more so with TransPRK, where changes in decentration are associated with with increased higher-order aberrations.

Effect of psychological intervention in cushioning work-induced stress among secondary school home economics teachers: Implications for policy and administration.
Work demands in the contemporary Nigerian work environment are a critical concern to many including occupational stress researchers. This informed the current study to investigate the effect of psychological intervention in cushioning teachers' stress in public secondary schools in Nigeria. ⋯ This study suggests that cognitive behavior intervention can decrease work-induced stress among secondary school home economics teachers. Therefore, the management of schools is enjoined to deploy the services of cognitive behavior therapists to monitor the mood and mental health of teachers.

Comparison of the problem-solving performance of ChatGPT-3.5, ChatGPT-4, Bing Chat, and Bard for the Korean emergency medicine board examination question bank.
Large language models (LLMs) have been deployed in diverse fields, and the potential for their application in medicine has been explored through numerous studies. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the performance of ChatGPT-3.5, ChatGPT-4, Bing Chat, and Bard for the Emergency Medicine Board Examination question bank in the Korean language. Of the 2353 questions in the question bank, 150 questions were randomly selected, and 27 containing figures were excluded. ⋯ ChatGPT-4 showed the highest correct response rate for the higher-order questions at 76.5%, and Bard and Bing Chat showed the highest rate for the lower-order questions at 71.4%. The appropriateness of the explanation for the answer was significantly higher for ChatGPT-4 and Bing Chat than for ChatGPT-3.5 and Bard (75.6%, 68.3%, 52.8%, and 50.4%, respectively). ChatGPT-4 and Bing Chat outperformed ChatGPT-3.5 and Bard in answering a random selection of Emergency Medicine Board Examination questions in the Korean language.
