Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection remains a significant global health concern, necessitating ongoing research and innovation in the quest for improved disease management. Traditional markers for monitoring HIV progression and the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy have limitations in capturing the intricate immune responses and inflammatory dynamics in people with HIV. In recent years, the concept of inflammation ratios has gained prominence as a valuable tool for assessing and understanding the complex interplay between inflammation, immune function, and HIV. ⋯ These ratios, such as the CD4/CD8 ratio, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio, offer a more comprehensive assessment of an individual's immune status and inflammatory state. By exploring the clinical implications of inflammation ratios, including their potential to predict disease complications and guide personalized treatment approaches, this publication sheds light on the potential benefits of incorporating inflammation ratios into routine HIV care. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of ongoing research in this field to further refine our understanding of the utility and significance of inflammation ratios in improving the lives of people with HIV.

Currently, various immunosuppressive drugs are used in organ transplantation. In particular, antithymoglobulin is a widely used drug in kidney transplantation in Korea, accounting for 20% of all induction therapy. According to existing studies, antithymoglobulin induction therapy has several advantages and disadvantages compared with other immunotherapies depending on the kidney transplant situation (dead donor, living donor, low-risk recipient, and high-risk recipient) or antithymoglobulin dose. In this review, we summarize the research conducted so far on antithymoglobulin and hope that antithymoglobulin research on kidney transplantation will be actively conducted in the future.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of Taohong Siwu Decoction (THSWD) combined with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), as well as THSWD alone, on the incidence of Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), D-dimer levels, prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), visual analogue scale (VAS) pain score, and calf swelling in patients undergoing hip fracture or replacement surgery, compared to LMWH. ⋯ This meta-analysis shows that compared with LMWH, THSWD combined with LMWH has a better efficacy in the treatment of DVT after hip surgery, without a significant increase in the incidence of adverse events. Additionally, the combined therapy can also reduce D-dimer, VAS, and swelling. However, due to the limitations of the included studies (such as small sample size and low-quality evidence), the results need to be further verified in more rigorous multicenter clinical trials with a large sample size.

Gestational choriocarcinoma occurs very rare in conjunction with pregnancy and it is camouflage for diagnosis. ⋯ Choriocarcinoma in pregnancy is camouflaged, and its clinical presentation varies widely. Despite an asymptomatic status, metastasis can occur, and ultrasonography is important for early diagnosis and treatment monitoring.

Potential protective effects of increased serum uric acid concentration in sarcopenia: A meta-analysis and systematic review.
Previous studies on the association between serum uric acid (UA) levels and sarcopenia have yielded contradictory results. This meta-analysis and literature review assessed the association between serum UA levels and sarcopenia. Moreover, we conducted a comparative analysis of the differences in serum UA concentrations between individuals with and without sarcopenia. ⋯ Individuals with sarcopenia have relatively low serum UA concentrations. A notable correlation between serum UA concentration and sarcopenia was observed. Hence, monitoring UA levels could aid in the early detection and treatment of sarcopenia, enabling timely intervention to preserve muscle mass and strength.
