Obesity is a complex chronic metabolic disorder characterized by abnormalities in lipid metabolism. Obesity is not only associated with various chronic diseases but also has negative effects on physiological functions such as the cardiovascular, endocrine and immune systems. As a global health problem, the incidence and prevalence of obesity have increased significantly in recent years. ⋯ Current methods for measuring obesity in adult include density calculation, anthropometric measurements, bioelectrical impedance analysis, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, computerized imaging, etc. Measurement indicators mainly include weight, hip circumference, waist circumference, neck circumference, skinfold thickness, etc. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the literature to date, summarizes and analyzes various assessment methods and measurement indicators for adult obesity, and provides insights and guidance for the innovation of obesity assessment indicators.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are, the metabolic byproducts of intestinal microbiota that, are generated through anaerobic fermentation of undigested dietary fibers. SCFAs play a pivotal role in numerous physiological functions within the human body, including maintaining intestinal mucosal health, modulating immune functions, and regulating energy metabolism. In recent years, extensive research evidence has indicated that SCFAs are significantly involved in the onset and progression of Parkinson disease (PD). ⋯ Subsequently, an analysis of SCFA levels in patients with PD is presented. Furthermore, we expound upon the mechanisms through which SCFAs induce inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, abnormal aggregation of alpha-synuclein, and the intricacies of the gut-brain axis. Finally, we provide a critical analysis and explore the potential therapeutic role of SCFAs as promising targets for treating PD.

The effect of ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block on postoperative analgesia in robot assisted prostatectomy: A randomized controlled trial.
Postoperative pain continues to represent an important problem even after minimally invasive robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, which results in discomfort in the postoperative period and sometimes prolongs hospital stays. Regional anesthesia and analgesia techniques are used in addition to systemic analgesics with the multimodal approach in postoperative pain management. Ultrasound-guided fascial plane blocks are becoming increasingly important, especially in minimally invasive surgeries. Another important cause of discomfort is urinary catheter pain. The present randomized controlled study investigated the effect of rectus sheath block on postoperative pain and catheter-related bladder discomfort in robotic prostatectomy operations. ⋯ RSB exhibits effective analgesia by significantly reducing postoperative opioid consumption in robotic prostatectomy operations.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most common modification on RNAs and LncRNAs. It plays an important role in cancer stem cell differentiation, T cell differentiation, and immune homeostasis. In this study, we explored the potential roles of m6A modification of RNA in melanoma and investigated the immune cell infiltration in tumor microenvironment in diverse m6Aclusters and different m6Ascore groups. ⋯ The low m6Ascore group, which had a favorable prognosis, was more relevant to immunology. The expression of PD-L1 was higher and the immunophenoscore (IPS) revealed stronger response to immunotherapy in the low m6Ascore group. This study identified 3 m6A modification patterns with different immune characteristics and constructed an m6Ascore system to predict prognosis and immunogenicity of patients, which is conducive to clinical prognosis judgment and individual treatment.

To investigate the value of preoperative ultrasound combined with 99mTc-MIBI imaging for the diagnosis of ectopic intrathyroid parathyroid gland (ETPG) in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). One hundred and eleven patients with SHPT who underwent total parathyroidectomy plus forearm transplantation from January 2015 to January 2022 in the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University were selected. All patients underwent routine preoperative ultrasonography and 99mTc-MIBI imaging, and with pathological diagnosis as the gold standard, the clinical data of ETPG patients were selected, including clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, preoperative ultrasonography and 99mTc-MIBI imaging for localization and diagnosis, intraoperative exploration and postoperative pathology, and postoperative follow-up. ⋯ A total of 5 ETPGs were detected by ultrasound combined with 99mTc-MIBI imaging, with a diagnostic accuracy of 83.3% (5/6). Patients' postoperative serum calcium and serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels were normalized or significantly decreased from preoperative levels. Ultrasound combined with 99mTc-MIBI imaging can achieve higher accuracy than either examination alone in the preoperative localization and diagnosis of ETPG in SHPT patients.
