Case Reports
Metacarpophalangeal joint reconstruction using a costal osteochondral graft: A case report.
The conventional treatment of giant cell tumors is intralesional curettage with local adjuvant therapy. Because hand tumors have a high local recurrence, the primary goal for treating tumors of the hand is to eradicate the lesion. ⋯ The customized prototyping technique has the potential to replica the original patient's bony graft to reach the goal of minimizing the defects at the donor site and maximizing the function of the reconstructed MCP joint.

The bullous variant of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a severe form of chronic CSC. Patients with the bullous variant of CSC have an increased risk of experiencing multiple pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs) and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) tears. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment for the bullous variant of CSC. RPE tear is a possible postoperative complication of PDT for eyes with PEDs. To our knowledge, no cases of giant RPE tears following PDT for the bullous variant of CSC have been reported previously. This case report presents the first instance of a giant RPE tear after half-time PDT for the bullous variant of CSC, accompanied by a series of images depicting the tear development. ⋯ In cases where the bullous variant of CSC is complicated by extensive PED, clinicians should consider the potential development of a giant RPE tear as a treatment complication.

Several studies have revealed the risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). However, no studies have evaluated the influence of these risk factors on the selection of treatment modalities for CTS. This study aimed to determine the influence of CTS risk factors on the selection of CTS treatment modalities with a focus on corticosteroid injection (CI) and surgery. ⋯ Old age was the most significantly related factor for selecting CI. Among underlying diseases or medications, CKD on dialysis and the history of DRF were the most significantly related factors for selecting operative treatment. For these patients, clinicians should proactively consider an operation to reduce the long-term discomfort and economic burdens.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic, progressive vascular disease. The relationship between CASP1 gene expression and atherosclerosis remains unclear. The atherosclerosis dataset GSE132651 and GSE202625 profiles were downloaded from gene expression omnibus. ⋯ CTD analysis showed that 5 genes (CASP1, NLRP3, CCR2, ICAM1, HIF1A) were found to be associated with pneumonia, inflammation, cardiac enlargement, and tumor invasiveness. CASP1 gene is highly expressed in atherosclerosis. The higher the CASP1 gene, the worse the prognosis.

COVID-19 caused by the novel coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, (SARS-CoV-2) is a highly contagious disease known for its significant lung damage. Although the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our daily lives has been limited, the virus has not vanished entirely and continues to undergo mutations. This calls for a concentrated focus on the matter of SARS-CoV-2 immune evasion. ⋯ Concurrently, this protein can engage in phase separation with RNA. A thorough examination of the phase separation related to the nucleocapsid protein may unveil the mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2 accomplishes immune evasion. Moreover, this analysis may provide valuable insights for future development of innovative antiviral drugs or vaccines.
