Reducing the south and reinforcing the north method (RSRN) has a positive effect on atherosclerosis disease. However, there is a lack of objective standards based on the quantification of 4 diagnostic methods in evaluating the improvement or effectiveness of the treatment. This study aimed to explore the quantitative evaluation of the therapeutic effect of RSRN on postmenopausal atherosclerosis based on the 4 diagnostic methods. ⋯ The patients had virtual string pulse at week 0, and mainly string I and string II at week 7. The pulse parameters t1, t5, w, w/t, h1, h5, h3/h1, and h5/h1 values at week 7 were different from those at weeks 0, 1, 2 (P < .05); the tongue image was mainly red and crimson, peeling or greasy fur at week 0, while at weeks 6, 7, mainly light red, or thin white tongue. The RSRN method can regulate the complexion, tongue and pulse condition, clinical symptoms of postmenopausal atherosclerosis.

Increased serum chemerin levels have been reported in several inflammatory diseases. Few studies have investigated the relationship between chemerin and clinical features of COVID-19. Thus, chemerin may modulate the development and progression of COVID-19. ⋯ Moreover, the chemerin level of patients who died was significantly higher than that of those who survived (P < .001). The chemerin level was increased in COVID-19 patients and also increased with increasing disease severity. The chemerin level was higher in the COVID-19 patients than healthy controls and was significantly higher in patients who died compared to those who did not.

To study the clinical significance of alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient (PA-aO2) for children with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). A prospective study was carried out from January 2020 to June 2023, Overall, 100 patients were included in the study, 35 had severe pneumonia, whereas, 65 had non-severe pneumonia. Clinical and laboratory data were retrospectively collected at the time of hospital admission and during hospitalization. ⋯ PA-aO2 was significantly higher among children with mechanical ventilation, shock, sepsis, and mortality. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis for PA-aO2 showed that the area under the curve was 0.76 (P value < .05), with a sensitivity of 84.3% and a specificity of 67.9%. Our study suggests that PA-aO2 level has a predictive value for detecting community-acquired pneumonia severity in children.

Four noncommunicable diseases (NCDs): cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes, account for 71% of global deaths. However, little is known about the NCDs risk profile of sexual and gender minorities (SGMs). This study aimed to determine the prevalence of NCDs risk factors among the SGMs of Kathmandu valley, Nepal. ⋯ There was a significant association between hypertension, harmful alcohol consumption, and overweight/obesity with the participants' age, employment status, and marital status, respectively. Study findings indicated a higher prevalence of NCDs risk factors among SGMs. National-level NCDs surveillance, policy planning, prevention, and targeted health interventions should prioritize the SGMs.

Non-paroxysmal junctional tachycardia (NPJT) is a self-limiting supraventricular tachycardia associated with primary heart disease, cardiac surgery, digitalis toxicity, and metabolic or electrolyte imbalances. However, NPJT caused enhanced normal automaticity even in the absence of structural heart disease can be fatal if not managed properly. ⋯ NPJT can occur by enhanced automaticity due to increased catecholamine during severe surgical hemorrhage. Although NPJT is generally self-limiting, it can be refractory to antiarrhythmic agents and accelerate hypotension if the surgical bleeding is uncontrolled. Therefore, aggressive management of the primary pathologic condition is crucial for the management of NPJT and hemodynamic collapse even in the absence of structural heart disease.
