Randomized Controlled Trial Retracted Publication
Assessment of the efficacy of alkaline water in conjunction with conventional medication for the treatment of chronic gouty arthritis: A randomized controlled study.
Chronic gouty arthritis, a prevalent metabolic disorder, has prompted interest in the role of diet and lifestyle in its management. This study examines alkaline water as a non-pharmacological adjunct to traditional medicine, hypothesizing its positive effects on uric acid levels and gout symptoms. ⋯ Alkaline water, particularly at high concentrations, effectively alleviated pain, reduced joint swelling, enhanced daily activities, and improved joint motion in chronic gouty arthritis treatment. It significantly reduced key inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α) and serum uric acid levels, suggesting its potential as a valuable adjunct in gout management. The limited impact on erythrocyte sedimentation rate warrants further investigation.

Microwave ablation for diffuse adenomyosis leading to multiple complications after hysterectomy: A case report and literature review.
Hysterectomy after microwave ablation (MWA) is more difficult than conventional surgery which increases the probability of postoperative complications due to MWA's collateral thermal damage to nearby intestines. Here we report a case of multiple postoperative complications after hysterectomy following MWA. ⋯ Microwave ablation has a poor therapeutic effect on diffuse adenomyosis, and should avoid excessive ablation during the ablation process.

Surgery for longer duration supranuclear ophthalmoplegia secondary to brain stem cavernoma: A case report and literature review.
Previous reports revealed that patients with acquired paralytic strabismus caused by central nervous system diseases are primarily affected by the etiology and treatment of the condition. Strabismus correction for these acquired paralytic strabismus should be performed as soon as the primary disease has been stabilized for 6 months in order to archive a favorable surgical outcome. ⋯ Resection-recession procedures combined with rectus muscle transposition works very well for longer duration large-angle strabismus caused by brain stem cavernoma.

Previous studies showed a potential anti-inflammatory effect of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) as well as possible inhibition of pancreatic secretion. This presents the question of their possible use in acute pancreatitis (AP). Current clinical evidence does not address the role of PPI and the present review for possible therapeutic use and safety is lacking. ⋯ There was no statistical difference in the rate of Clostridium difficile infection between the 2 cohorts (0.9% vs 0.8%, P = .5). The use of PPI in mild AP with a BISAP-score of zero is associated with reduced pancreatitis-related complications and improved mortality. Prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.
