ReviewDo colloids in comparison to crystalloids for fluid resuscitation improve mortality?
Permanent neurological impairment or death arising from hospital-acquired hyponatremia in both children and adults is well documented. The choice of intravenous fluids for fluid resuscitation in critically ill patients is a top priority in evidence-based medicine. ⋯ Well powered, randomized clinical trials addressing the comparative efficacy of different types of intravenous fluids is a high priority as is the ethical justification for such trials. The understanding of the pathophysiological process serves important information on clinical practice.

Case ReportsCutaneous larva migrans: a neglected disease and possible association with the use of long socks.
Cutaneous larva migrans is a common parasitic skin disease that can be easily prevented by wearing 'protective' footwear. However, this has been under-emphasized in terms of what constitutes the protective footwear. Even though the disease resolves spontaneously, the significant duration of the disease along with severity of pruritus make treatment unavoidable. Here, we present a very long-standing creeping eruption, which puzzled many attending clinicians handling the case, and the possibility of long socks as a causal effect on the development of cutaneous larva migrans infection.

Infection control during filoviral hemorrhagic fever outbreaks: preferences of community members and health workers in Masindi, Uganda.
Interviews were conducted with health workers and community members in Masindi, Uganda on improving the acceptability of infection control measures used during an Ebola outbreak. Measures that promote cultural sensitivity and transparency of control activities were preferred and should be employed in future control efforts. We suggest assessing the practicality of body bags with viewing windows, and face shields with or without chin protectors, in future outbreaks.

ReviewA new global malaria eradication strategy: implications for malaria research from an Indian perspective.
The Roll Back Malaria Partnership has developed the Global Malaria Action Plan for a substantial reduction in the burden of malaria and its eradication in the long term. The challenges faced by countries in their malaria control efforts are varied. ⋯ We need new drugs, insecticides and other intervention tools with sufficient coverage to achieve the goal of malaria control or elimination. The issues important for malaria eradication are discussed from an Indian perspective.
