This paper is a report of a study to describe Emergency Mobile Unit team members' and healthcare professionals' perceptions of a disaster preparedness and response project and to explore the elements of participation that could support its sustainability. ⋯ Improved coordination and measures to increase job satisfaction for national aid workers are needed, and a more positive knowledge-based response system and continued overall support for emergency mobile teams. Involving disaster-affected people and the local community, especially women, in health development projects will help to ensure both success and sustainability.

This paper is a report of a study to explore the relationship between leader-member exchange quality and organizational identification and the mediating role of job involvement in this relationship. ⋯ If nurse supervisors increase their awareness of the effects of their behaviours towards their nurses, they can increase the nurses' performance and achieve desired results through increasing job involvement and organizational identification.

This paper is a report of a study: (i) to investigate anxiety arising from the experience of the clinical environment during surgery under local/regional anaesthesia and (ii) to uncover the specific aspects patients find anxiety provoking and possibly dissuade them from opting for such anaesthesia. ⋯ Focusing care on managing the intra-operative experience and providing anaesthetic information in advance might help limit anxiety and expel the apparent misapprehensions associated with conscious surgery.

This paper is a report of a literature review to identify (a) the prevalence of emotional and psychological problems after intensive care, (b) associated factors and (c) interventions that might improve this aspect of recovery. ⋯ Our understanding of the consequences of intensive care is improving. Psychological care for intensive care patients has lagged behind care for physical problems. We now need to focus on developing and evaluating appropriate interventions to improve psychological outcome in this patient group.

This paper is a report of a study to examine the relationship between intention to change profession and intention to change employer among newly graduated nurses. ⋯ Turnover research in nursing should include intention to change professions as well as intention to change employer. Policies and practices that enhance the development of affective professional commitment prior to exposure to the workplace and support affective professional commitment, job satisfaction and organizational commitment in the workplace are needed to help reduce nurse turnover.
