Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of naratriptan and sumatriptan in recurrence-prone migraine patients. Naratriptan International Recurrence Study Group.
This randomized, double-blind, crossover study was undertaken to compare the incidence of headache recurrence after treatment with naratriptan or sumatriptan in migraine patients with a history of frequent headache recurrence (recurrence in > or =50% of successfully treated attacks). ⋯ These data suggest that naratriptan is a long-acting and well-tolerated addition to currently available medications for the treatment of acute migraine.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialDose-response effect of combination hydrocodone with ibuprofen in patients with moderate to severe postoperative pain.
The objective of this study was to demonstrate a dose-response effect with 1- and 2-tablet doses of combination hydrocodone 7.5 mg with ibuprofen 200 mg and placebo in patients with moderate to severe postoperative abdominal or gynecologic pain. ⋯ This study demonstrated that a 2-tablet dose of hydrocodone with ibuprofen provided significantly more analgesia than a 1-tablet dose (a positive dose-response effect) and that both doses were superior to placebo.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialCombination hydrocodone and ibuprofen versus combination codeine and acetaminophen for the treatment of chronic pain.
The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of combination hydrocodone 7.5 mg and ibuprofen 200 mg with that of combination codeine 30 mg and acetaminophen 300 mg for the treatment of chronic pain. ⋯ The results of this study suggest that 2-tablet doses of combination hydrocodone 7.5 mg and ibuprofen 200 mg may be more effective than either 1-tablet doses of this combination or 2-tablet doses of combination codeine 30 mg and acetaminophen 300 mg. Moreover, 1-tablet doses of combination hydrocodone 7.5 mg and ibuprofen 200 mg may be as effective as 2-tablet doses of combination codeine 30 mg and acetaminophen 300 mg.

Effect of macrolides as part of initial empiric therapy on medical outcomes for hospitalized patients with community-acquired pneumonia.
The goal of this study was to compare the outcomes of hospitalized patients receiving a nonpseudomonal third-generation cephalosporin with or without a macrolide for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). ⋯ We concluded that the addition of a macrolide to a nonpseudomonal third-generation cephalosporin as initial therapy for the treatment of CAP may not be necessary. A randomized, prospective clinical trial comparing a nonpseudomonal third-generation cephalosporin alone and in combination with a macrolide is warranted.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialA randomized, double-masked, clinical study of the efficacy of four nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in pain control after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy.
This study assessed the efficacy of 4 nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). ⋯ Flurbiprofen appeared to be the most effective NSAID for the treatment of pain, even at 24 hours after surgery when pain was at a maximum.
