Review Case ReportsAnterior ischemic optic neuropathy after unilateral radical neck dissection: case report and review.
Blindness or visual deterioration after neck dissection is a known and a rare complication of the operation. Visual impairment usually occurs immediately after bilateral radical neck dissections either performed synchronously or in a stepwise manner, resulting in permanent blindness. Hypotension and blood loss during long operations, elevated venous pressure postoperatively result in optic neuropathies, which are anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) or mostly posterior ischemic optic neuropathy (PION) affecting different portions of the nerve. ⋯ Vision loss may be reversible when both internal jugular veins are preserved, but permanent when any of them are resected. Here we present the first case of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy developed after unilateral radical neck dissection, resulting in partial visual deterioration.

Comparative StudyDistortion-product otoacoustic emission: early detection in deferoxamine induced ototoxicity.
Deferoxamine therapy in lifelong transfusion-dependent anaemias, as beta-thalassemia major, is associated with an increased risk of ototoxic changes. With increasing survival rates, prevention and/or early detection of ototoxicity are important for providing management options. The predictive value of pure-tone audiometry in early detection of ototoxicity has been questioned, particularly in the higher frequencies. Otoacoustic emissions appear to be more sensitive to cochlear insult than the conventional pure-tone audiometry. The aim of our study was to compare the efficacy of otoacoustic emissions (distortion-product otoacoustic emissions) with that of pure-tone audiometry as method of audiological monitoring. ⋯ As ototoxicity screening tool DP-gram was extremely sensitive and superior to pure-tone audiometry. Their use is recommended for regular monitoring of cochlear function, aiming in prevention of permanent damage.

Clinical experience with collagen injection of the vocal fold: a study of 155 patients.
This study evaluated the results of laryngeal collagen injection. ⋯ As an outpatient office procedure, collagen injection offers a simple, efficient and effective treatment for dysphonia. Various aspects of the procedure for anesthesia, injection techniques, and patient selection are discussed.

Case ReportsIntralabyrinthine schwannomas: symptoms and managements.
To describe the characteristic presentations, radiologic findings and managements of the intralabyrinthine schwannomas. ⋯ Intralabyrinthine schwannomas are the rare tumours in the otology. The tumour can be removed by surgical approach, but we do not propose surgical excision for the patients with serviceable hearing. BAHA can give patients a post-operative monaural pseudo-stereophonic hearing.

Review Case ReportsThree cases of bilateral chylothorax developing after neck dissection.
Only 16 cases of bilateral chylothorax following neck dissection have been reported within 10 decades. In this paper, three cases of bilateral chylothorax which developed after neck dissection are reported. ⋯ Diagnosis may be delayed in those who are on total parenteral nutrition, and therefore particular attention should be paid to those patients. It may be difficult to treat cases of chylothorax that develop following neck dissection performed after radiotherapy.
