Case ReportsPrimary papillary carcinoma of the thyroglossal duct: case report and review of the literature.
Primary malignancies of the thyroglossal duct are rare. Around 150 cases are described in the world literature, most of them being papillary thyroid carcinomas. Other types of tumors are squamous cell carcinomas, mixed follicular-papillary carcinomas, or adenocarcinomas. ⋯ It is intended to remind the reader of this pathology which is often forgotten because of its rarity. The problems that occur during the process of evaluation regarding ideal treatment of the individual case are discussed. The literature is reviewed.

Case ReportsCongenital middle ear cholesteatoma: report of 3 cases.
In this report, we presented 3 cases of congenital middle ear cholesteatoma which occurred in a 12-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old boy. In all 3 cases, there was a whitish mass behind a normal tympanic membrane. Congenital middle ear cholesteatoma is not a rare disease. ⋯ The abnormal appearance of their tympanic membrane was found by chance at their local otologists. We performed tympanotomies and removed cholesteatomas without aftereffects. When otologists note an abnormal appearance behind a normal tympanic membrane, with or without symptoms, tympanotomy should be done due to the possibility of congenital middle ear cholesteatoma.

Case ReportsNeuro-otological findings in a case of Marinesco-Sjögren syndrome with nystagmus.
Marinesco-Sjögren syndrome is a very rare disease that develops in childhood with main symptoms of cataract, ataxia, mental deficiency and microsomia, and is regarded as a type of spinocerebellar degeneration. The author performed the neuro-otological tests on a case of suspected Marinesco-Sjögren syndrome. ⋯ Marked atrophy of the cerebellar hemisphere in CT scans supported the neurootological findings. The author agrees to the opinion of Skre and Löcken who included Marinesco-Sjögren syndrome in the cerebellar form of spinocerebellar degeneration.

Case ReportsSurgical treatment of laryngotracheal stenosis by a trough technique.
Many methods have been tried and reported in the treatment of laryngotracheal stenosis. Among them, a trough technique seems universal at present. To date, we have tried several methods of this technique, but each method had its own demerits. ⋯ The neck is closed with advanced neck skin flaps. A more ideal tracheal lumen is created by this technique. Our four patients are doing well two years or more after the operation.

Case ReportsThe significance of serologic test for EB-virus antibody in occult type nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Since antibody titers against Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) antigens are often elevated in sera of patient with active undifferentiated and nonkeratinizing nasopharyngeal carcinoma, anti-EBV serologic tests have been applied for diagnosis of metastatic lymphadenopathy in the neck without an obvious source and/or suspicious tumor of the nasopharynx. In this study it is emphasized that the serologic test procedure was helpful in diagnosing a patient with nasopharyngeal carcinoma that was initially occult but eventually confirmed by biopsy.
