Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffectiveness of hemostatic gelatin sponge as a packing material after septoplasty: A prospective, randomized, multicenter study.
Although hemostatic gelatin sponge is a gelatin-based packing material with a powerful hemostatic effect, there were no studies in regard to its efficacy for packing material after septoplasty. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of hemostatic gelatin sponge nasal packing on patient's subjective symptoms, hemostasis, and wound healing following septoplasty. ⋯ The use of hemostatic gelatin sponge after septoplasty results in significantly less discomfort and greater patient satisfaction with no adverse reactions when compared with polyvinyl acetate packing. Therefore, hemostatic gelatin sponge may be a useful packing material after septoplasty.

Case ReportsBilateral inner ear damage after electrical injury: A case report.
Electrical injury occurs as a result of direct contact with an electrical source. We present the case of a 62-year-old male patient, an electrician by profession, who was hit by a high-voltage electrical current while working with cables in proximity to a wet floor. ⋯ The exact pathogenetic mechanisms of inner ear dysfunction after electrical injury have not been fully elucidated, although it is believed that there is significant improvement with time. Long-term follow-up, medical assistance and psychological support are crucial factors for the patient management.

Review Case ReportsSyndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion in a case of olfactory neuroblastoma without anti-diuretic hormone immunoreactivity: A case report and review of the literature.
Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a relatively rare nasal or paranasal malignant tumor. This tumor is rarely accompanied by paraneoplastic syndromes such as syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH). Here, we report a 31-year-old female with histologically confirmed ONB who had been diagnosed with SIADH three years prior. ⋯ SIADH resolved immediately after surgical tumor resection. Immunohistochemically, both biopsy and resected specimens from the nasal cavity had been negative for ADH. Although extremely rare, ONB may be associated with SIADH, and the possibility of this cancer should be taken into account during the follow-up of idiopathic SIADH.

Efficiency of intraoperative neuromonitoring on voice outcomes after thyroid surgery.
Voice disturbance is an important problem after thyroidectomy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) in reducing early phonation change by comparing postoperative voice outcomes. ⋯ IONM during thyroid surgery resulted in better outcomes regarding fundamental frequency and high-pitch voice in the early postoperative period. IONM appears to be an effective method to reduce temporary phonation alteration after thyroid surgery.

Comparison of level and degree of upper airway obstruction by Müller's maneuver and drug-induced sleep endoscopy in obstructive sleep apnea patients.
This study aimed to compare and analyze the level and degree of observed upper airway obstruction in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using Müller's maneuver (MM) and drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE). We sought to find a method for evaluating the upper airway that could be used to determine surgical sites. ⋯ Both examination methods revealed the same obstruction levels in all cases except epiglottic level, but there were some differences in obstructive degree. MM is capable of detecting obstruction levels in the upper airway and can be used to determine surgical sites in cases when DISE cannot be used due to a patient's condition or a clinic's circumstances.
