Cancers in the liver, bile duct system, gallbladder as well as metastases of the liver, have poor prognosis. Their treatment is comparable, with surgery being the most widespread, available curative treatment. Surgical treatment is anatomical or non-anatomical resection of the liver where the tumor and the adjacent liver tissue are removed. ⋯ Liver surgeries performed in Iceland seem to be comparable to Sweden in terms of complications and post operative mortality. In Iceland, considerably fewer operations are performed per capita, especially on liver metastases which could be explained by the fact that fewer patients are discussed at multidisciplinary team meetings.

The incidence of diabetes is growing, and diabetics have increased risk of atherosclerosis and diffuse coronary artery disease (CAD). Our aim was to assess the revascularization treatment of diabetics with CAD in Iceland from 2010-2020, changes in management and long-term survival of patients. ⋯ Three quarters of patients with diabetes and obstructive CAD are now treated with PCI. The PCI and CABG groups had overall equal survival but the groups had different characteristics.

Prevalence of oral health problems among nursing home residents is common, they suffer from oral diseases and need dental service. The aim of this study was to examine clinical oral health of Icelandic nursing home residents and their oral health quality of life. ⋯ Current administration of oral health care in nursing home needs alteration and the qualification in geriatric oral health and oral health care must be guaranteed among nursing staff in these settings. The public and health professions should work together in oral care matters in nursing homes to maintain oral health and lifelong oral health quality of life among residents.

Educational attainment is related to improved health and longevity. We investigated the relationship between educational attainment and cardiovascular risk factors, subclinical atherosclerosis, and incidence of coronary artery disease. ⋯ Primary school and vocational training compared to university education are associated with risk factors of atherosclerotic disease, subclinical carotid plaque, and incidence of cardiovascular disease. The reason for this disparity remains to be clarified but socioeconomic inequality related to less educational attainment might be involved.
