Review Meta AnalysisAntibiotic prophylaxis for preventing recurrent cellulitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
A significant proportion of patients who have had a first episode of erysipelas or uncomplicated cellulitis will subsequently develop a recurrence. There is disagreement about how effective antibiotic prophylaxis is for preventing recurrent cellulitis. ⋯ Antibiotic prophylaxis can prevent recurrent cellulitis. Future research should aim to identify the ideal type, dosage, and duration of antibiotics for prophylaxis, as well as to identify the group of patients who will benefit most from antibiotic prophylaxis.

Case ReportsUnique reassortant of influenza A(H7N9) virus associated with severe disease emerging in Hong Kong.
Human infections caused by avian influenza virus A(H7N9) re-emerged in late 2013. We reported the first Hong Kong patient without risk factors for severe A(H7N9) disease. ⋯ The A/Hong Kong/470129/2013 virus is a novel reassortant derived from A/Guangdong/1/2013 virus. The unique mutation PA L336M may enhance viral replication and therefore disease severity.

Review Meta AnalysisAntibiotic prophylaxis in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the impact of systemic antibiotic prophylaxis in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. ⋯ Systemic antibiotic prophylaxis successfully reduced the incidence of infection. However, there was no significant impact on mortality. The clinical benefits of prophylaxis with fluoroquinolones were inconclusive because of the small number of clinical trials evaluated.

Daptomycin is effective as antibiotic-lock therapy in a model of Staphylococcus aureus catheter-related infection.
The effectiveness of daptomycin versus vancomycin for treating experimental methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) catheter-related infection by antibiotic-lock technique was assessed. ⋯ Daptomycin 50 mg/mL showed the highest activity against both strains biofilms.

Observational StudyIncidence, timing and risk factors associated with 1-year mortality after hospitalization for community-acquired pneumonia.
To identify the incidence, causes, timing and risk factors associated with 1-year mortality in CAP patients after hospital discharge. ⋯ Patients mainly died from infectious diseases and acute cardiovascular events in the first six months after leaving hospital for an acute CAP episode. Certain features may help to identify the risk of long-term mortality in CAP patients.
