Case ReportsBone involvement in atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors of the CNS.
Destruction of the bony structures of the skull is rare in primary tumors of the CNS. In low-grade gliomas, modeling of the skull is caused by slow growth and chronic pressure. Bony destruction is exceptional even in highly malignant gliomas. ⋯ These 5 patients were collected in our imaging data base for childhood atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor consisting of 91 children at the time of this evaluation and thus representing 6.6%. The mean age of children with bone involvement (4.8 years) was above the average age (2 years) of all children in the data base. We add this rare feature to the list of typical features in MR imaging and CT morphology of atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor.

Case ReportsEndovascular treatment of deep hemorrhagic brain arteriovenous malformations with transvenous onyx embolization.
Brain AVMs are a rare cause of cerebral hemorrhage and SAH, and their treatment is still debated. The aim of this study was to describe a novel endovascular approach with transvenous embolization of deep hemorrhagic brain AVMs. Five patients (3 females, 2 males; mean age, 33.2 years) underwent a transvenous embolization of a deep hemorrhagic brain AVM at our institution between February and April 2012. ⋯ All the AVMs were completely obliterated, and no intra- or postprocedural complications occurred. The clinical outcome was unchanged or improved in all patients. Transvenous endovascular treatment may be considered in small, hemorrhagic, and deep AVMs with single deep drainage in those cases in which neurosurgical and radiosurgical treatment might not be indicated.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyCoil embolization versus clipping for ruptured intracranial aneurysms: a meta-analysis of prospective controlled published studies.
Coil embolization is an alternative to clipping for intracranial aneurysms. However, controversy exists regarding the best therapeutic strategy in patients with ruptured aneurysms, and there is great center- and country-related variability in the rates of clipping versus coiling. We performed a meta-analysis of prospective controlled trials of clipping versus coil embolization for ruptured aneurysms. ⋯ On the basis of the analysis of the 3 high-quality prospective controlled trials available, there is strong evidence to indicate that endovascular coil embolization is associated with better outcomes compared with surgical clipping in patients amenable to either therapeutic strategy.

Comparative StudyCerebral diffusion tensor MR tractography in tuberous sclerosis complex: correlation with neurologic severity and tract-based spatial statistical analysis.
The neurologic significance of residual cerebral white matter tracts, identified on diffusion tensor tractography, has not been well studied in tuberous sclerosis complex. We aimed to correlate the quantity of reconstructed white matter tracts with the degree of neurologic impairment of subjects with the use of DTI and determined differences in white matter integrity between patients with tuberous sclerosis complex and controls with the use of voxelwise analysis. ⋯ Patients with tuberous sclerosis complex with reduced residual white matter were neurologically more severely affected. Tract-based spatial statistics revealed decreased FA and axial diffusivity of the cerebral white matter in the tuberous sclerosis complex group, suggesting reduced axonal integrity.
