Volume-Time Index Is Not an Indicator of Outcome for Patients Undergoing CRS/HIPEC for Treatment of High-Grade Appendiceal Carcinomatosis.
Completeness of cytoreduction score (CC-score) and tumour grade have been shown to be independent prognostic factors in patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for the treatment of high-grade appendiceal carcinomatosis (PMCA). In patients with colorectal cancer with peritoneal metastases (CRPM) that undergo CRS/HIPEC, volume time index (VTI) has been shown to be an independent prognostic factor for overall survival (OS). This analysis was conducted to evaluate VTI as a prognostic factor in PMCA. ⋯ VTI for PMCA was not shown to be correlated with overall survival (OS) for patients undergoing CRS/HIPEC, and suggests that the rate of tumour growth does not affect the patients' outcome. Neither high PCI nor rapid tumour growth following primary tumour resection should, therefore, be a contraindication for CRS/HIPEC in patients with PMCA.

P53/MDM2 Co-Expression in Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Based on Digital Image Analysis.
P53 is a key regulator of genomic stability and function, acting as a tumor suppressor protein. Our aim was to correlate P53 expression with murine double minute 2 (MDM2), a proto-oncogene that interacts with P53 and forms an auto-regulatory pathway, in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). ⋯ Aberrant co-expression of P53 and MDM2 is associated with advanced stage in LSCC. Furthermore, MDM2 overexpression is a frequent and critical genetic event in LSCC and seems to negatively affect survival.

Comparative StudyAbiraterone Acetate and Enzalutamide: Similar Efficacy in Treating Post Docetaxel Metastatic Castration-resistant Prostate Cancer: Single Center Experience.
Abiraterone (AA) and enzalutamide (ENZ) were introduced in Taiwan since 2012 for the treatment of patients with post-docetaxel metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). This study aims to retrospectively compare the efficacy of the two regimens. ⋯ AA and ENZ had a similar efficacy in treating post-docetaxel mCRPC patients. Metastatic volume and nadir PSA were independent risk factors of these patients in predicting their disease-specific survival and overall survival.

ReviewThe Past, Present and Future of Immunotherapy for Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma.
The treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has evolved tremendously over the past decades. Localized disease is often curative with surgical resection of the malignancy. However, in cases where the primary tumor has metastasized, immunotherapy is becoming a more prevalent means to combat metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). ⋯ These drugs have been used as a monotherapy, combination therapy, or as successive treatments to systemic therapies. This review summarizes the success of previous and current therapeutic targets, while also leading to the direction of future therapies. This review might be helpful in improving the management of mRCC.

Protective Effect of Melatonin on Cisplatin-induced Ototoxicity in Rats.
Cisplatin is a highly effective chemotherapeutic agent that is used to treat solid tumors; however, its severe side effects remain a limitation. In particular, the high incidence of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity has attracted interest. Melatonin has been shown to decrease the toxic effects of cisplatin due to its antioxidant activity, and could increase the efficacy of cancer chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of melatonin against ototoxicity in rats treated with cisplatin. ⋯ Melatonin can be used as an adjuvant tumor treatment due to its ability to decrease cisplatin-induced ototoxicity.
