Promoting the use of periarticular multimodal drug injection for total knee arthroplasty.
Postoperative pain in total knee arthroplasty is a challenge that affects the facets of an optimal recovery process. Adequate pain management can be achieved with traditional methods, such as parenteral opioids, epidural analgesic, and peripheral nerve blocks, but is often associated with disruptive side effects, mostly attributed to the opioids. ⋯ The purpose of this article is to describe the use and effectiveness of periarticular multimodal drug injection for postoperative pain management and accentuate the potential consequent effects of effective pain control. Comparative differentiation of this method with other forms of pain management modality is illustrated with strong emphasis on safety and efficacy.

Pediatric trauma injuries account for 11 million hospitalizations annually with a significant percentage related to the musculoskeletal system. Nursemaid's elbow is a common injury in young children that can often be prevented. ⋯ Activities such as swinging a child by the hands or pulling on the pronated upper extremity can cause nursemaid's elbow. Prevention of nursemaid's elbow in children may be accomplished with education of parents, daycare workers, and teachers on the mechanism of this common injury.

Experiences of pain and satisfaction with pain management in patients undergoing total knee replacement.
To investigate the features of pain, factors affecting pain, interference with activities, and satisfaction with pain management in patients undergoing total knee replacement. ⋯ It is not enough to determine pain severity for pain management. Pain interferes with activities. Therefore, nurses should assess both pain severity and interference with activities and provide pain management, which avoids interference with activates.

Understanding the health literacy of America: results of the National Assessment of Adult Literacy.
Health literacy refers to an individual's ability to understand healthcare information to make appropriate decisions. Healthcare professionals are obligated to make sure that patients understand information to maximize the benefits of healthcare. The National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) provides information on the literacy/health literacy levels of the U. ⋯ The NAAL is the only large-scale survey of health literacy. The results of the NAAL provide information on literacy/health literacy and the relationship between background variables and literacy/health literacy. Multiple variables with potential for a relationship with literacy/health literacy were chosen for the NAAL including, but not limited to, education, language, race, gender, income, overall health, seeking health information, and health insurance.

Violations of patient confidentiality occur all too frequently. Conversations about patients and their care can be heard throughout hospitals. ⋯ Healthcare professionals, including nurses, are at risk in matters of patient confidentiality. This article discusses confidentiality and its relationship to privacy and the trust relationship that healthcare professionals have with their patients, and offers some suggestions to uphold confidentiality within the healthcare setting.
