Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Variations among 5 European countries for curative treatment of resectable oesophageal and gastric cancer: A survey from the EURECCA Upper GI Group (EUropean REgistration of Cancer CAre).
EURECCA (EUropean REgistration of Cancer CAre) is a network aiming to improve cancer care by auditing outcome. EURECCA initiated an international survey to share and compare patient outcome for oesophagogastric cancer. The present study assessed how a uniform dataset could be introduced for oesophagogastric cancer in Europe. ⋯ This European survey shown that implementing a uniform treatment and outcome data format of oesophagogastric cancer is feasible. It identified differences in disease presentation, treatment approaches and outcome, which need to be investigated, especially by increasing the number of participating countries. Future comparisons will facilitate developments in treatment for the benefit of patient outcomes.

Review Meta Analysis
Exercise intervention in people with cancer undergoing neoadjuvant cancer treatment and surgery: A systematic review.
Neoadjuvant cancer treatment decreases physical fitness. Low levels of physical fitness are associated with poor surgical outcome. Exercise training can stimulate skeletal muscle adaptations, such as increased mitochondrial content and improved oxygen uptake capacity that may contribute to improving physical fitness. This systematic review evaluates the evidence in support of exercise training in people with cancer undergoing the "dual hit" of neoadjuvant cancer treatment and surgery. ⋯ This is the first systematic review of the effects of exercise training in people scheduled for "dual-hit" treatment. This evidence synthesis indicates that this approach is safe and feasible but that there are insufficient controlled trials in this area to draw reliable conclusions about the efficacy of such an intervention, the optimal characteristics of the intervention, or the impact on clinical or patient reported outcomes.

Most nomograms for Gastric Cancer (GC) were developed to predict overall survival (OS) after curative resection. The Italian Research Group for Gastric Cancer (GIRCG) prognostic scoring system (PSS) was designed to predict the recurrence risk after curative treatment based on pathologic tumor stage and treatment performed (D1-D2/D3 lymphadenectomy). This study was carried out to externally validate the GIRCG's PSS. ⋯ The GIRCG's PSS, which predicts the likelihood of recurrence after radical surgical treatment for GC, is more accurate than TNM system to predict recurrence mainly for high-risk patients. Yet, the PSS does not have the same effectiveness for low-risk patients, overestimating the chance of recurrence occurs even for disease-free patients.
